What bacon slicer and where from?
« on: February 23, 2013, 01:31:13 pm »
We have just had some hand cut bacon from our sow. It is AMAZING.  We have about 53 kilos of back bacon and streaky.  We are considering buying a slicer.  We don't want to spend masses but would like something reliable. Any suggestions folks?

Do you actually want a bacon slicer or a stand meat slicer

Something that can handle wet fatty meat. We already have a cooked meat slicer and this is definately not up to the job.

It was the usual first port of call but we are unsure of what they all can really (honestly) do. Ther are some megabucks ones out there which we can't justify but on the hand we don't want to end up buying something that isn't up to the job.

Have a look at Northern Tools.

We went through a number of experiences with second hand and cheap meat slicers and really - you get what you pay for.

We eventually bought this one fro Northern Tools which has been fantastic for bacon.
We do the best we can with the information we have

We have a Berkel, bought from ebay a few years ago for £245, new price was easily £2000 (it was a bit difficult to determine exactly which model we had, it's like those in the supermarkets except it looks like an older model). Had to spend 2 days cleaning it and then it didn't work... until we replaced the fuse  :D  Couldn't do without it.
