Having searched in vain for either a good for-hire or second-hand small livestock trailer, suitable for two pigs, I'd be grateful for any advice forum members can give on the topic, specifically:

1.  Am I right in concluding that second hand small (and legal) livestock trailers are everso rare, if not extinct?
2.  Does anyone have a recommendation of a good make/model, as I think I may need top purchase sooner than I planned? I've been looking at Ifor Willliams, Bateson, Hudson, Indespension.
3.  In case I end up needing to sell the trailer on (due to relocating), do they hold their value?

Many thanks

Jon

rare as rocking horse poop... :)

Have a look at trailer hire companies then speak to ifor williams/ or other company and see if current top can be fitted to the 2nd hand ones available :)

most tops are detachable so the trailer can serve two purposes

The Hudson one is mega

new ones drop as soon as you hitch it and leave the store then at that price will stay for about 5 years

Have never heard of the fourth brand on your list, but the others are all good. They do hold their value really well, especially Ifor Williams. Check out eBay, but they are few and far between.

There's a wee company at Glendale, think its called Glendale engineering? And they are good too.

If you are looking for a good practical trailer have you though of C.L.H. Trailer form Wales they are great trailers well built and versatile we our over the moon with ours it is 8ft x 49" and looks like this.
With the top off and the central gate out it can be used as an ordinary trailer, as it is easy to clean, the dropdown sides can be removed and tailgate comes with detachable side rails, the price is just over £1300 new, with a hitch that is suitable for both car, tractor and quad.

And they hold there price we saw one sold at auction a week after we got ours for £50.00 more than the new price.

OH bought his plant trailer from Indispension, good prices but customer services (leeds) shocking, had to chase them for dleivery all the time, but well made, fit for purpose.
Have heard Ifor Williams are not as good as they once were (using cheaper thinner steel) ours is 30yrs old and in for service at mo (new brakes, re-spray of wheels and general tlc  )
Most trailers hold a good value second hand especially if well looked after and one of the smaller ones.

We have an Ifor Williams 8 x 5 which is excellent but a smaller one would be very useful so we'll probably get a CLH at some point.

For small trailer it might not make much difference but I think the CLH ones are heavier than ifors so take that into account.

They are super rare where you are in here in the East - saw quite a few up north and west.  we waited for ages and ages.  Keep an eye on Farmers Guide ad section and Farming ads.

Another question to add to my earlier ones (especially for those with CLH trailers): is there any particular advantage to having a drop-side trailer rather than a solid side one? I can't imagine carting animals with the sides down.
Thanks again

No advantage when carting animals but if you load the trailer with a shovel, want to balance a load of cement evenly across the axle for noise weight then it helps
