We're quick enough to moan when the prices are going up  so I thought I'd put up a quick post.

My last tonne of sow rolls were £13 less than last month's  Now, I know it might just be a clerical error and don't want to get too excited just yet - but it's the first time in a long time that it's gone down.

Something is changing.... My bill is the same from Sept.  A chap I know who has a pig sperm business has not seen a drop in his order amount (although smaller pig units have cancelled, he has had larger orders from bigger units) and when I was chatting to the chaps at the abattoir and butchers the other day, they were talking about pork being really worth something in the next couple of months.   Maybe if the country dips into further recession and people end up choosing between meats, pork is the obvious answer as the cheapest option.

Mine has not gone down but it hasn't gone up in the last 3 months which is good. I think it will be like petrol and go down very very slowly if at all.

I've found that the people I deal with when I buy a ton will give me different prices depending on who I speak to. So I play them off against each other to get the best price. I've paid the same for the last three lots.

Similar story here .... when it last went up it wasn't too difficult to negotiate and get a better price. I can't remember whether I got a price freeze or met them half way but certainly worth a try!

Hi here in France (SW France) our feed bill remains the same per ton 323 euros plus 7% vat. Last change was last May it went up by 8%.

Yes I have heard similar. I have heard that we are heading for a shortage of pork and the price will go up

Ours has remained the same for the last 3 months at £331 per tonne but would be cheaper if Ihad it in dumpy bags but being lazy and it is easier to move round I get it in 20k bags on a pallet.

Ours has stayed the same, at least.  However, rats have become a real nuisance and have eaten any savings made by buying in bulk.  So, I am back to buying from our local guy, several bags at a time and popping them in the grain bin.


Meanwhile, thanks to the local Cat Protection people, four new cats have taken up residence in the barn:  Briggs & Stratton, Bathsheba and Salome (now known as Salami).  Another week and then we will be releasing them to unleash havoc on thelocal rat population.  Only thing is, I think the rats are bigger than they are     Poor little mites are very small on account of malnourishment at their last home.  But I am doing what I can to redress that imbalance, and help them put on weight and muscle, as well as topping up their love levels

I've just been down to my local feed supplier and bought a ton. Although the actual retail price hasn't changed I have paid slightly less than last time. Maybe there is the beginning of a downward trend?
Also got 10 bags that go out of date today for 3 quid a bag so happy days.
