Townie, Cock is a RIR X and hen either a black rock or speckledy! We hatched 2, just over 2 weeks ago, one is silver and one is golden, but Maddox's chick is a lovely dark golden colour by the looks of it, so could've been a black rock!

Hi Maddox, glad to hear they doing well, what a shame you only had 1! all my 6 were fertile but its been a disaster, 4 hatched on the mon/tues and mum still sat, she left the nest 2 days later and moved her sitting spot! the eggs were cold and I couldn't hear anything so after a while I took them and cracked them to see what had happend and they both started 'cheeping', I felt teriible as they may have hatched if I'd left them? I put them in the airing cupboard but they died, it was awful. Then we think a magpie found its way into the broody house (small gap at the top of the door) and took 3 chicks so we only have 1 left. A conplete disaster :'(

Sorry to read your sad news Dixie but you know practice makes experience and you will learn from events this time and next time will be better. I once had 6 eggs out the incubator to be sprayed with water and forgot to put them back in the incubator within the 15 minutes. I felt sick as a pig but learnt from it. I replaced the eggs and only 1 hatched but I learnt a valuable lesson that time and never made the same stupid mistake again. Good luck with any future sittings.
