Lovely day with the snorkels

Cold but bright day today.   Just got back in, having had the easiest pig move ever.  I got the heebie-jeebies about our Flame large black.  Although she is nowhere the same size as our 2 Bess large black girls I have seen a slight change in her shape, so we did a last minute move (hubby is going a way for a while so I have to work around his dates etc) and popped her into a farrowing ark - just in case.

She is the friendliest pig ever and just so easy to manage. Literally we had the back of the trailer down and the doors half open and she was in.  The other end straight out and with food on the floor we fenced around her whilst she ate.  No trouble at all      Finished wiring up with her busying herself chatting to me, the odd in yer face snort etc.  Very gently she let it be known that a good back rub was in order, you know the nudge method.... she grunted most appreciatively.  Such a super pig, everyones favourite by far.

There are only 5 breeding sows of her line left so I really hope that we can breed from her and keep her. Our boars line produces large litters so  :fc:

Have also spent alot of time putting new bales in arks, adjusting the polywire fencing to add on grassy ground to the paddocks etc.  Lots of snorts and squeals of excitement, combined with the odd galavant en masse around the fields.  why DO they just suddenly take off?

General piggy stuff but just absolutely ace. Makes up for all the crappy mud and rain over the past couple of weeks

Here's to dry days  :trophy:

It makes SUCH a difference doesn't it ? First time this year I've been able to walk straight out the back of the shed without getting stuck in the mud  :excited:
We've spent the day insulating out water piipes (after we got them thawed out  ::)) and spending some time with some new Kunekune arrivals  :pig: These are offspring of our boar, born in the summer and are super looking wee piglets  It bodes well for all our future litters too, really nice to see them  ;D
I'll get some photo's on soon  :fc:

Hope all goes well with Flame, Mrs S  :fc: I've got 2 'Diana' gilts here (another really rare Large Black line) so here's hoping they perform well next year  :fc:

But yeah, no mud is great  ;D :sunshine:

We moved our boar and his current companion onto a new patch of ground at the weekend. It's a real luxury just walking across the grass to the trough! Two sows and nine growers to move into another field over the next couple of days, then a couple of weeks and it'll be back to square one, mud glorious mud.
