Dog poo!!!
« on: February 27, 2009, 07:54:11 pm »
Our buff orpingtons have just started a rather disgusting habit of following the dogs when they go out for a number 2 and start eating it before we have chance to get there and pick it up. Is this normal? Makes me cringe just thinking about it.  They have ample food and clean fresh water but seem to prefer poo!!! Anyone else every come across this?

I know the revers is true in my garden, when I go to collect eggs the dogs come and "clean up" a bit  :dog: I suppose if the chickens could they may try dog poo too although mine seem a bit fussy..interesting

Don't let them eat it. Keep your garden clear of dog poo.  I have to anyway as grandchildren are magnets for the stuff!

We clean it up as soon as they have done it  but the chickens seem to know there going to do it and just sit waiting for them to do it and run upto it like its a delacacy.

We had a cat who loved the concentrated chicken manure...At least that was sterilised! Also, last years ducklings had a go at the other ducks' poo. :&>

My dogs rush to eat any chicken and duck poo that's left behind, but I stop them.  I can't see how it is good for any species to eat fecal matter of others.  It would transfer diseases as far as I can see.  But maybe I'm letting disgust at the thought over rule common sense?  Any scientific evidence on this?

dog mess left in sheep grazing can cause GID, tapeworm that lives in dogs intestine the eggs of these when eaten by sheep can cause cysts on the brain.
