I got a lovely buff sussex cockral for my 7 girls, he was an older boy but I wanted something friendly and that would be good to my girls, he is two had him since start of this year, one of my buff girls has been broody twice sat like glue, to point I had to pull her off after couple days after laying time is up, just to double check before I removed her off, I candled the eggs to find nothing.
I have seen him dtd rarely, he is healthy looking and active, so I'm stumped.
Should I give him till summer next year to see if anything happens or think about replacing him now ready for spring next year?.
Though I would be very sorry to see him go as he is very gentle towards my girls and likes a stroke when I close up the coop at night.

Whereabouts are you, I'm trying to buy some more Buff Sussex pullets but everyone is selling trios and I already have a nice cockerel - so could maybe split a trio with you if you were close enough? I'm on the Cumbria/N Yorks border.

The cock bird is the  most important ,i wouldn't give up yet id put him on his own for a month then get a couple of hens laying he should tred st rate away if blank hes got to go. I Always have 2 cocks to 10 hens and use 12 month old cocks I'm naw hatching for my new stock for  next spring i then sell the old in march .

Jaykay I'm in Somerset, so lil far to travel, such a shame as would of been perfect.
Im thinking of making him into a stew, but will hold out till I find another suitor, though only ones of that breed are 14-18 wks.
