A walking stick is a great help for getting a seat on the tube

Not just that. I had a bit of a fall a few years back - actually, I tried to do the splits in a confined space, thereby smashing into the wall radiator and taking the door of its hinges - nothing broken, but I was a nice dark colour all down my left side, so had to walk with a stick for a couple of weeks. Great! Dropped my wallet at the check-out - several heads almost banged together bending down trying to pick it up for me (thereby nearly adding to the total damage caused by my slip!).  ;D

Today I was trying to get out of the car while the recycling lorry was reversing down our very narrow cul de sac.  I have to open the door fully to do this and assumed the lorry would stop if it reached me before I was out.  There is just room to get a car through the gap but the lorry driver obviously forgot what he was driving and attempted it.  I had to get round the the front of the car quickly and without any support.  My OH who had just helped me out and was about to get my crutches from the back seat, had to move to the back of the car.  The lorry ended up in the hedge and had to go forward again then reverse.  Why they couldn't have given me one minute when it was obvious I was struggling is beyond me.

All shops over here have a designated, specialy designed dish that the change goes into. It does make picking up the little coins easier...for both sides of the counter.
This is one of the few things ive noticed that help, round here they are deff. not wheelchair/buggy friendly.
