Won't put the guys name & phone number but they are in Ardeley (south coast?? not sure of geography)
Obviously another who thought he'd jumpon the rare breeds bandwagon and now can't sell the progeny! so is cutting his losses and selling out!

Surely that's a misprint  :o
10 weaners for £35  :-\ Maybe it should read 10 @ £35  ???

I reckon it's a miss print too; saw one ad the other day for two weaners for £450 each!? Not quite sure why it is so distressing though Mandy; could just need to get rid of them all and a lower price sells quicker! Could be all sorts of factors that we dont know about - so we shouldn't judge!  :-J

But is still a very low price - they could be the worst looking pigs ever! haha!  :D

Its distressing because if the ad is correct how are other pedigree breeders of those breeds in the area going to get a decent price for their pigs in that area?
Other factors for selling so low, yes maybe we don't know circumstancesbut might have been good to say something in ad in that case eg loss of land forces sale.

Yes, but at the same time, a pedigree buyer isn't going to buy cheap, non-pedigree pigs, especially if there are more, better pigs in the same area.  But the factors could be anything from lack of money, lack of land, illness, moving. He may just be trying to get some money back. But it is almost obviously a miss-print, no weaners are sold at £3.50 each..! But other things need to be considered before getting all angry and judgemental.

Have you been to Gisburn mart recently, weaners struggled to make £5 and they were pedigree GOS!!!

Firstly the area isn't 'pig country', secondly breeder had an extra litter and found he couldn't shift it thro the usual channels, smallholders ad's even GOS website, couldn't afford to keep them all and fatten so mart really only option. After mart charges he probably only got £3.50 for each of them proabaly didn't cover his diesel. Whilst local farmers will pay big money for sheep & cattle they know they won't get a return on these pigs so won't pay top dollar for them, UK commercial farmers are currently losing £18 per pig they fatten (this weeks FW).
Sad but true.

we find our local market has grown  in the pig field only last week we saw good strong weaners/small stores  reach £55 but the same day also saw £5 poor quality coloured weaners too quality will always sell sows were reaching £200 too same again quality sells.

Think a lot depends on where you are in the country and as you say the quality of the stock on offer. As i said it's not a pig area mainly, moorland and dales.
Same as selling pork, in my area i can get £140 for half a pig in parts of North Wales for example people are struggling to get £90 for half a pig, i believe in economics its call gepgraphical variation!
Prices will go up shortly as people start to buy their pigs for Xmas porkers. (well i hope so as i have 7 weaners to sell at the end of Aug! :fc: )
