Hi all, I'm after a couple of goats for our kids to take care of.

We are in sheffield but have livestock transport.

Cheers

If you don't want to milk, pigmies are one answer, the other is to have a look for a wether from a  larger breed - I'd especially suggest a rare breed golden guernsey. The breed society have officers who match up available stock and John Hankinson (lincolnshire) covers North of England. Might even get one still on the bottle if that's what you want.
Traditional and Rare breed livestock -  Golden Guernsey Goats, Blackmoor Flock Shetland and Lleyn Sheep, Pilgrim Geese and Norfolk Black Turkeys. Capallisky Irish Sport Horse Stud.

A few questions you need to think about before you rush out and get goats
What happens when your kids get fed up and want another form of amusement ?
Do you have adequate housing, shelter, grazing, food supply etc ?
Do you have any knowledge on the care and welfare issues and needs of goats ?
Do you have any goat keepers you can call on locally to help and advise you ?
Do you have a holding number ? you will also need herd number
are your fences and gates in good order? they will find out for you
are you prepared for the long term commitment and dedication needed?
Don't just get them on a whim

Hi, we are near Doncaster and have different breeds of goats, although mostly Boer goats. We have two wethers that were born last year and are friendly and are used to our daughter. They have been disbudded as well. I agree with tizaala that there are some things to think about before getting any animal and it is important to us that goats that we are selling have good homes, but you've found this site so I guess you have already been doing some research.

Hi again,
We have a cph number as we have pig's,we have housing sorted with hardstanding, fencing is 2m high.
Think the wether's may be a good idea.

Cheers

I think wethers are a great way to start with goats, gets you used to them without having to worry about seasons, mating, milking, kids and the like

Oh... I read kids as, er, kids...  You know, baby goats looking for a mother or two...  ::)
