2 sets of hatching chicks
« on: June 24, 2012, 11:27:24 am »
My two broody hens are in the process of hatching; one has hatched 6, but has now stopped, whilst the other one has only hatched 2, with only one surviving, and there haven't been any more for a few days.

Firstly, I assume putting them in the same run will result in chaos, so could I put all of the chicks under one hen?
Secondly, how do we know when it's best to stop this hen sitting?

Cheers

Giving the hen all the chicks could result on her killing the ones that are not hers. Hen should give up sitting soon by herself.

I have some eggs in an incubator (only 7) and some eggs under a broody hen. I take it if they hatch I can't put them together, then?

thx

The hen with the six chicks is out in a run now, but the other one is still hatching hers, now she's got 2. So when this hen stops sitting, can we put this hen in the same run as the other one?

Thanks
