Wanted - rare breed lamb or beef
« on: June 03, 2012, 05:38:20 pm »
If anyone happens to have any going spare (or expecting some over the next few weeks). The rarer the breed, the better. Would prefer local to me in north Fife, but willing to pay courier costs if not extortionate. Or alternatively if anyone can reccomend a trusted seller?

We will have some Shetland Beef available around the end of July, but I am unsure if the sale of produce (as opposed to livestock) is permitted on this forum.

Rosemary: perhaps you could advise?

Yes it is, on a small scale (and we'd be interested in buying some too!).

If selling beef is your primary source of income then please contact me for an advertiser's pack.

OK, thanks.

This is a pure-bred Shetland steer, grass-reared to 29 months to fully develop the flavour of the meat. Our butcher will hang the carcass for 21 days before cutting to produce mixed beef packs. We are aiming to make the packs around 25kg each. Price will be £9.95/kg.

Our animals are slowly reared in the traditional manner. With the exception of a few 'cattle rolls' and carrots (hand-fed as treats and bribes rather than supplements as such) they are fed entirely on our own grass and our own hay.

We are based in the Elgin area of North-East Scotland, not far from the coast of the Moray Firth. Customers are welcome to come and collect their packs in person (and see our herd for themselves), or we can arrange courier delivery.

HAH! I wish :)   We've been keeping Shetland Cattle for nearly four years now, and this will be the first beef we've produced. If this was our primary source of income, we'd have starved long ago!

Feedback has been that 25kg is too much beef for a lot of people, so we're now offering packs at around 12.5kg. We'll keep the price the same (£9.95/kg).
