« on: May 08, 2012, 06:37:56 pm »
im not a horsey person, i trek with my daughter twice a year but thats it. but today my landladys tb hunter was running riot round the field and i caught him!! i called him over, (mr t) walked sideways on towards him, without looking him in the eye, sort of offered some grass, still not lookin in the eye, i walked towards him then backed off when he backed away, eventually, after a few trys he took the grass, let me stroke his flank, and then i caught his saddle, still stroking and talking to him as my landlady got the halter on him, i was so chuffed!! and so was she!! im not very relaxed around horses,  but today i was and it worked. definitely earnt some brownie points and a bit of a boost to my horse experience too. ive read alot on here about pressure/release and sort of managed to put that into practice today, so thank you :horse:

thanks, i live on an equestrian center so the more experience i have with horses the better. im always repairing stables or making jumps, maybe i should learn to ride properly rather than hold on and hope. ::)

I caught my old neighbours £10. plus grand showjumper that was running amok in the garden centre with its trainer running behind it like a maniac. i just went to her stables and got a bucket of feed.! i took it back to the stables when the owner drove up and asked what the hell was going on and why was i walking his horse on the road with two inches of rope! The trainer had some explaining to do why she was lunging with the gates open. I had two horses at the time but that powerhouse on four legs was a bit intimidating.
Well done you.
