Finally finished
« on: May 10, 2012, 09:42:21 pm »
the epic hatching of geese in my incy. I had to take 7 away from under the goose as she kept turfing them out and letting them get cooler and then taking them back under her again. I don't think she really knows what she is doing as it is her first year at it. So put the eggs in the incy after candling them. It has taken 10 days for 5 to hatch. The oldest is 10 days old and the youngest is drying off in the incy now.
The oldest one had a paint roller and a cuddly sheep and a radio for company.

Then he/she got some company

And this is tiny in the incubator

Silly Spangled Appenzellers, Dutch bantams, Lavender Araucanas, a turkey called Alistair, Muscovy ducks and Jimmy the Fell pony. No pig left in the freezer, we ate him all!

They are lovely. Have they imprinted on the paint roller?

The first one imprinted on the paint roller and the radio. I have taken the radio out now as it had stopped working and was covered in goose poo. All of them love the paint roller. They all have a go at balancing on it, it's so funny to watch them. They also love me and my OH but I don't think they have imprinted on us.

Well done!
You did the right thing - I've never yet had a goose that has sat the full term and hatched eggs - I now, always, set them in the incubator.
