Feel so proud!
« on: April 11, 2012, 10:11:38 am »
I took a starter flock up to novice shepherds in Scarborough in early March. Three of my favourite, very handleable and experienced pregnant ewes were tearfully parted with to a lovely couple who are so keen and in love with the breed I felt sure they were in good hands. Bea, Beth and Clover were all expecting twins. Stephen and Christine tried to get as much lambing experience from neighbouring flocks before the event. I texted Stephen a couple of days ago just to reassure him that we're here at all stupid hours of the day and night (got 28 of our own on the maternity ward right now) as I knew Bea was due first any day soon.
He's just called me. She delivered twins fifteen minutes ago, unaided, perfectly presented and searching already to suckle. He sounded so grinny and I feel so utterly proud of my girls. I left him getting her the essentials of water and feed and advised him to check the teats are clear etc. I'm only in my fourth lambing year and still learning ( and unlearning!) so much myself, it feels GOOD to be able to set someone on that same wonderful path. ;D ;D ;D

Hi Bramblecot,
they are British Gotlands. Remy has had some from me. Her girl Dixie (a first timer) has just had twins out on the field with no assistance too. You may also have read about Remy's little poorly ewe Tiny who is all better now.

:-))

We are in our second year of lambing with Badger Faced sheep. It's even better now as we know them so much better and have worked out better ways of doing things so we can care for them better (not that they need much really).

They have lambed both years with no problems but this year we have a first timer and - typically - she is the last to go (she has good leadership qualities normally - but obviously not with the tup in this case ;-) ).

They are all woderful Mums and we are so grateful and proud........

Ooooh - brings a lump to my throat.
