Eye problems in lambs
« on: March 26, 2012, 09:17:39 pm »
A friend of mine has 2 lambs (not with the same mother) that both have what I can only describe as little red cateract type things in the corners of their eyes. I've looked in my sheep books but haven't found anything like this. I wonder has anyone any ideas as to what this might be and how he could treat them?
Thank you

It could be soil causing irritation - you couldn't get a picture could you?
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Was there or is there any sign of watering from the eye or does it look like the eyelashes have rolled in?  This normally happens with entropian where the bottom lid has turned in.  If you carefully pull it down you may see signs of some lashes rubbing the eye.

It can be treated with antibiotic ointment, if eyelid still rubbing then vet may need to inject some antibiotic into it to keep it out.  The redness is the eye trying to heal.

I have had trouble with this but my vet is very good and treated it easily with no distress to lamb, Now perfect.
