So into the last few days of waiting for the first lambs. I will be updating daily on are progress. This year we are lambing 300 ewes over a 7 week period. Things are looking good so far. All the ewes have been brought into the barn and are looking very relaxed. Are first lambs are due on Sunday but these ewes can lamb any day now. So I'm checking the ewes every few hours just to make sure I don't loose any lambs to mismothering or ewes getting them stuck. We have 60 first time lambers along with 240 experinced lambers. We have 158 twins 128 singles with 14 triplets. I will update tomorrow on how the day has gone. Hopefully with some news of new lambs. James
Day 2
The ewes are now looking bigger every time I check them and I have noticed they haven't stopped eating haylage, I lamb Suffolk, texel cross and a few other breeds with my favourite being the Dorset. This evening I will be taking some pictures and will add them so you guys can see my setup. Just before I left earlier I think we may be getting are first lambs this evening. With the rain earlier we didn't get a chance to get the stores lambs in for market, so painfully I had to sit with a warm cup of tea watching over my ewes. This afternoon I popped up and checked my cattle as when we fed the, this morning one was looking a little restless and this can be a sign of calving. We only have 8 Aberdeen angus but this is my first year of calving so this is all new to me but extremely exciting. Well it's that time again to head back to lambing shed to give them there evening feed of ewe nuts, will add some photos tomorrow, over and out....
