Waiting for blood test results
« on: February 29, 2012, 09:45:45 pm »
On an ill Beltex ewe. My wilts horns are kept at my parents and are currently running with a couple of beltex ewes, a couple of jacob crosses and the wilts ram. A half bred wilts ewe died at the weekend after a couple of days of being ill. She had no outward symptoms apart from keeping away from the others and gradually fading away. My dad thought it might have been fluke so he cut her open and had a look. No fluke but she was carrying a couple of lambs  :'(  We took the poorly beltex ewe to the vet for blood tests and are now waiting for the results. The vet gave her a vitamin injection and, touch wood, she seems to doing ok. I drenched and Hep P+ the ewes yesterday and they all seem to be in good condition, not too fat or thin. So I have no clue as to what is up. :-\

Hi we've had two ewes die( pts humanely) this year both with lambs inside them both quite close together and both had all the jabs antibiotics etc
I will be quite interested to hear what your cause was sounds similar, they seemed to fade away even with constant care. not had this before generally they spit the lambs out when they die inside

Well the first results showed a higher than average worm burden but not enough to kill. Nothing else has shown up yet. The poorly Beltex is now ok and back in the field.
