There were several monthly magazines in this area I recall but we stopped taking any of them a couple of years ago because at least one of them always had dire content and the rest were rather uneven.

When something you're interested in is flagged on the cover and then turns out to be badly written with factual errors or just sketchy coverage you do feel a bit cheated.  We got the feeling that the editors were a bit desperate for content and would take anything submitted but didn't themselves have the knowledge to sub-edit the articles into shape.

Some contributors have masses of experience but can't write, others can write but have nothing to say and then there's the Tim Tynes who manage to be engaging and knowledgeable

It sounds like we should look again.

Oh dear, hope we don't fall into either category. It's actually quite difficult - I'm sure the editors would welcome submissions from well informed, well researched, literate smallholders  :)

I did say it was a couple of years ago!

I suspect the vastly increased interest in the subject now gives editors rather more choice.

Sorry, didn't mean to sound as tetchy as it did  :)

I subscribe to CS and Smallholder and buy HF sometimes too. Plus Scottish Farmer every Friday - mostly I have no idea what the articles are about but I like to look at the adverts and the sales at the markets. All business expenses anyway.  ;D
