Reared
« on: February 07, 2012, 11:31:42 pm »
My yearling reared entering the stable for no reason and knocked her head
on the the overhang, wont now enter  the stable.
She is now standing out 24/7, covered.
Have been trying to coax her in again.
Any ideas
Not do as my horsey neighbour suggested, use the plant.

Is it possible to make a pen outside the stable she can go in,with the stable door wide open and all her food etc inside (water inside and outside)? That way she can go in once she decides, and also she wont be being led, which was the scenario she might associate with when she got hurt? just a thought.

It might have been no reason for you but I bet it was life or death to her! ;)
Don't forget they see with differant eyes and have been bred for millions of years as prey animals with flight their first instinct so shadows etc could be anything and what sane prey animal would go into a bears cave anyway when they should be living out on an open plain ready to run for their lives!
Just understand that and be patient, give her pleanty of rope and remember the "reward" is hands that open quickly and close slowly at the appropriate time.Don't go out too work her with the fixed idea of getting her to enter the box in that session...as someone  I know says"Never known it take ore than 2 days ;D

You may try putting her water bucket a few feet from the stable door, then moving it nearer each day until it's inside. A horse will do without food for a long time but not water. Good luck :horse: :hshoe:

I have now sold this filly ,there seemed to be to many small problems,
mostly due to her young age
this would take a lot of time and patience's to short out.
I am now on the lookout for something older.(a lot older)
So as to get back to my local rideing club, been of for about four years :horse:
