Hello all hope all are having fun in this rain!haha,could someone please tell me what saddleback Xgos meat is like please?we have a sow due to the boar in a month or so and just wondering to put her to saddleback or if ok to put to Gerald our GOS?many thanks matt jen

We had gos weaners a couple of years ago and they produced delicious pork with a good layer of fat.  last year we had gos crossed saddleback weaners and the meat was definitely less fat - still tasty though

Also, gos - floppy ears which give you a fighting chance to get the feed into the bucket...saddlebacks can see!!

saddlebacks have lop ears too !!! hampshire's have prick ears.

aye but being able to see has it advantages when uv changed the feeding spot. when i call mind, my tammies come running to whereever i am, but the GOS runs to where i was yesterday....lol

We had 3 saddleback x gos weaners in our first year and the meat was delicious, particularly the boy slaughtered at 6.5 months with 18 mm fat, 3 weeks before his sisters who had more fat.   All three of them had 100% saddleback colouring and shape - no sign of the GOS to look at.   Tamsaddle

this crossing with different breeds can through up some funny permutations only going to say about the crosses that we have done
lop x Hampshire     the cross we have done a lot of times   always come out white with a pronounced black circle on the nose all have prick ears some have a perfusion of black spots on there back  could pass for commercial pigs they inherit the hams of the Hampshire's and the leanness of the Hampshire and can stand being feed more than normal to get the quicker growth
Hampshire x Tamworth  can produce normal Hampshire looking pigs but can also throw red saddelback pigs the red ones do inherit the Hampshire of size and growth cant comment on carcasses as never kept them on everybody wanted the cross pigs
tamworth x Hampshire  produces Hampshire looking pigs and colour time will tell on there conformation
we have also had kunnies and kunnie x tamworth never again the kunnie appeared to be the dominant side with this cross in all aspects fat size and growth
we have had other crosses that we acquired gos and a saddelback to comment on the saddelback would start a debate with Mr pig
