sheep in ring feeders
« on: November 28, 2011, 03:38:27 pm »
A couple of my shetland gimmers have a trick (which they learnt as lambs) and thats to squeeze in between the bars of the ring feeder and trample and s**t on the hay. I need another ring feeder anyway and I'm wondering if the type with the horizontal bar, designed for horned sheep might prevent this.
So has anyone ever seen a sheep get into one of those type of ring feeders?

I would have thought a horned feed ring for sheep would be just as easy for them.Ritchie now make a diagonal railed feed ring, this may be better?

The horizontal bar ones are even worse, so bad that ive stopped using them even for blackies, ewes can get into them. try a cradle type feeder

I've ordered a richie diagonal one, I thought it might be very pricey but it was £120 which is £20 more than the normal ones.  I'll let you know if it does the trick but I am pretty optomistic. Thanks for the suggestions

I use hay trollies..... much easier to move, keeps hay dry outside and nothing to get caught on/ hung on/ ripped on etc ;D Ring feeders are ok if indoors or for cows imho!
