how can i get rats out to shoot? i just shot one but seen a few so was thinking maybe a handful of corn placed about 3ft away from shed to tempt them out? what bait is more appealing to them? cheers in advance matty

chicken pellets always seem to atract them, my kittens have had a real good time since arriving chasing them and they have caught a couple

i will try to lure them out with pellets then as they come out in pen with chooks  in day light so i took 1 pot shot  hit it but not good enough so id rather get them out in open and can see if i killed it before it runs under shed i know i hit it as it jumped 2ft in air and screamed but need  more leverage

o you got it alright it will die underground   all you will do is just have them coming out at night this is there usuall time for feeding    it is rare to see them in daylight unless they are undisturbed
depends on ground conditions you can pour creosote or old engine oil down there hole as they constantly clean themselves they ingest it and buggers up there insides

I had the same prob a few years ago the rats just ran out a quick snatch at the bate and back in to eat at there leasure giving me no time to shoot them with an air rifle,I thought about the shotgun but it was to near the shed and the chickens inside. I used a live trap cage and over three nights got them all I think. Diesel soaked paper stuffed down there hole works very well at keeping them out but they will just set up home somewhere else and still visit you chickens feed.  Good luck they can be tricky b------S  A ferret and a couple of terriers gives them a bit of a shock and is good sport.

last hour of daylight, tie a hot deepfried chicken drumstick to a brick.
 the smell brings em out, they have a bite and try and take it back out of the open and as they try and pull the bait away, i shoots 'em good fun!

Hi everyone,

               Good baits are mashed up banana smeared on a plank of wood, chocolate spread works as well, chocolate on or in traps works well. A trick of our local ratman is to mix the poison in with the banana, that's OK if you do not have any other animals about or can contain it in a bait box either home made or a shop bought one, hope this helps

Peanut butter is my bait of choice! They might not touch it for a few days though as they are usually really suspicious
