Peebles Championship Show 22/02/09
« on: January 10, 2009, 05:17:17 pm »
Hi

As mentioned kindly below, Peebles Championship Show is being held on Sunday 22nd of February 2009 in Peebles town centre, Scottish Borders.

I just wanted to let you all know that schedules and entry forms are on the way out for this show.

They are also accessible through our website
http://www.peeblespoultryclub.co.uk/index.php?section=4

Alternatively you would like a schedule / entry form emailed, posted or faxed out to you, please private mail / pm me, and I will arrange for one to be sent out.

This year we have selling pens, egg classes, novice classes, over 50 trophies, as well as the usual 250 classes for everything else!

Entries do close on 9/02/09 or when capacity entries of 1000 birds are entered whatever happens first, so early entry is recommended.

Many thanks for all interest/ encouragement. I look forward to seeing many of you at the Scottish Nat or Peebles.

I'm hoping to come along to both shows. Not showing this year but maybe in the future. Presumably there will be a poultry show at the Highland this year, too.

It was much easier to get information about the Peebles Show than the National. I still haven't found anything worthwhile on the National Show yet, which is a shame.

Hi Rosemary

Glad to hear you have got the info you needed on Peebles. Us at Peebles always reckon we cannot expect people to come along to show or visit us if they have not heard about the show or got the details they need!

Your best bet for the Scottish National information would probably to try emailing / phoning their show secretary - Robert MacDonald.Tel: 01771 622557. e-mail: [email protected]
Sorry if you have already got those details. Robert is a lovely man and sure would help you with details.

Yes, there is going to be a poultry section at the Highland show too.  I am on their poultry committee and we are a friendly bunch ;) It actually is not a bad show to start showing.  Though the poultry section at the Highland is not as massive as the Scot National or Peebles. There are loads of things going on in the show ground to keep you occupied all weekend! The competitive / show part of the Poultry section at the Royal Highland Show is being held on Saturday 27th of June and Sunday 28th of June 2009. Entries close on 30/04/09. For information, entry forms, schedules, please phone SAm Orr on 0131 441 4759.

Hope that helps a wee bit

Showing at the Highland show is really easy- I'd recommend it. Its always harder for me because I'm there from the tuesday with the goats as well, but I have been known to show both!

Quite right too - free entry into the show... and we have pretty much every single breed on display across the 800 pens.  If you buy a wee catalogue at a £1m, you can then check which breeds are in which pens.  There will also be a couple of geese, 4 turkeys, ducks, large fowl, true bantam, hard feather... and 150 plates of eggs!

We are also doing selling pens to sell by auction..if you are tempted!! Below & attached is a list of who is selling what in what pen number.  Please note that not all sellers have given us details of what they are selling yet and others may change their mind and bring along other birds to sell.. so this is a useful guide only at this point.

just sent a wee email via the link above - what time is the event on from, and as i'm just being curious - not needing to attend auctions and the like - and will also have a dog in the car waiting for me to come back and walk him!! - what would be the best sort of time for me to arrive?

I'm really just wanting to look at the different types of birds and speak to folk on what might be the best breed for me (they are all going in the pot, i don't need many eggs!!)

Hi

The show will be absolutely open between 12:30 and 15:30.. expecting it to be absolutely mobbed!

I am really not sure of best breeds to eat as I am only involved in the exhibition side..  :chook: But you will see so many of the popular breeds and a few of the rarer ones too.

made it down to the show, wow, some gorgeous looking creatures. I doubt any of those chooks have seen a muddy farmyard - i thought i was watching Prescila, Queen of the desert. some of those birds were well tarted up!!!

i think the Hamburgs are my OH's favs and i like the Black/blueish ones!

though the proof will be in the eating.

I also think i might get a turkey, just to fatten him up for christmas!! and because i reckon a bird that size will terrorise my wee dog and keep him in line with the birds!! :-)

Glad you made it to the show.  You are right.. some birds are pretty pampered, but you would be surprised at how many live free range too! A good couple of washes and they come up lovely!  :&> :&>

Quite a few people do that with turkeys.. apparently, it is quite good value though the plucking is particularly hard work.   :turkey:
