getting rid of the smell of dog wee????
« on: July 29, 2011, 11:28:20 am »
I made a reply on this topic before but cannot find it, I usualy clean the yard with bleach as that seems to be the only thing that gets rid of the smell, well this time, one of my dogs has weed in the back of the car, not sure why but the blankets were very stinky, not too wet but it must have run under the seating so I wiped it up with some Jayes Fluid over the area and now it smells worse....like a gents toilet in a dirty park!!!! (not been in one of them for ages ::)

I will have a go later but any recomendations...I gave a lift to a young man to the train station and I had also just had some scampi fries so I bet he though it was me that was VERY smelly ::)

I tipped the seats and there was a lovely puddle of stale wee so the car now smells nicer!!!

Apparently a weak solution of biological washing powder and water sprayed over the area, then wiped is supposed to get rid of the smell.

:) I tried that on some stuff a dog we used to have and everything made it worse, although I bet if you get it soon enough it works.

I feel so embarresed as I bet the man I gave a lift too thought how smelly I was  ;)

the best way sandy is           do not have dogs in the car     or if you must better getting a rubber tray for the back easier hosing down a bit of rubber than smelling urine on a hot day  :dog: :farmer: :dog:

The car IS the dogs, bought with the money from the pups and to take all 4 dogs out for walkies and to the vets!!

There is a rubber linner in the back, the wee had run into a dip where the seats clip into!!!! All sorted now and no wee wee smell until the next time!!! ;)

Bicarb is brill, I use it on wee wee beds or floor if/when we get them ;)

Bleach contains ammonia, just like urine does... so although its a great disinfectant it won't make anywhere smell less of wee!

I've mopped our kitchen with Savlon disinfectant today, after Sheba's "postman & cats through the door!" accident 8)
smell abit like a hospital, but not in a bad way ;)

white vinegar dituted with water to mop floors or in a water sprayer to use on smaller areas.

this also stops dogs going back to that spot to wee again, bleach can encourage dogs to urinate in the area.

THe car was a one off BUT, as the dogs have the run of a yard rather than a grass garden, I have to clean that down regularly and  usualy use bleach (often in my best clothing ;) ) the main problem is although the yard is drained into a proper drain, next to the drain is a soak away and that now has strong smells comming from it, Jays fluid just makes it smell worse so I will try again to dam that bit off as its deep and narrow so very hard to clean out!!!!

vinegar takes away all smells i used a few drops every day whilst the puppies were here with no hint of doggie wee or anything else.

i also use it in the chicken runs to keep odours at bay.
