What a day its been today; first we were working out the back of the house, and since we are getting a new bathroom put in there have been workmen in and out all day so drive gates were open, we have 3 dogs and all stop at the end of the drive, anyway, the collie ran to the end of the drive barking alerting us that there was someone there so i went out and saw this big german shepard off the lead, chasing my collie, lab and little cavalier, lab and collie were fast enough to get out of the way but cav was a little slow, just aswell id just come back from checking stock and had my stick with me!! I am a animal lover but have no hesitation on using the horned part of the crook to protect my dogs!!

Dad came out and all of us were shouting to get his dog under control or on a lead, to no avail so the dog come past me still chasing the collie this time and it got a good braying he eventually got it but the proceded to say if the dog was hurt we'd be getting the bill!!!! And started to square up to us!!!!

I dont care how well trained the dog is going through a farm stead or near fields with stock in it should be on a lead, mine are all fully trained one sheepdog and t'others gundog trained!

Then there is re-surfacing of the road just above the house but the council are just sending the wagons to turn on our front garden!!!! We caught two in the act but they were blo**y polish saying 'i no speak english' there has been 6 people down in wagons all polish!! We rang the council to say looka im not having my property being used as a roundabout and to send someone who can speak english!!! Its bloody typical of the council to have 10 workers 8 are pols, 1 scot and a jock!!!

Oh dear!!!!

Firstly, I find people working at our house also leave gates open....that makes me angry, your lucky that one of your dogs didn't get run over for a start. Next time we get a workman here I think I will say, the job stops and no further payment if you leave the gate open!! (I bet I don't say that)

I can see why your angry about the dogs off the lead, we keep ours to forest walks just in case of livestock being around!! Even the most trustworthy dog can take off and chase something as its thier basic instinct, the dog owners are certainly at fault not the dog! Many farmers have signs warning of livestock, there has been a few similar posts on here about dogs attacking others on thier land!

THose lorry drivers probaly have no concept of it being your property, as far as they are concerned they want to turn around, other than blocking the entrance or standing there most of the day, you will not stop them, phoneing the council is the correct route but I bet the message will not sink in at all!!!

Not too sure where people come from has a bearing other than the lack of communication!!! after all, it could be any one of us working away from our home land/town.

We live about 5 miles from the main road so cars arent a problem and it just gets fustrating because if my dogs had gone onto his land chasing his dog im sure there would be lots more said.!!

Our county council tried to say the road works had nothing to do with them :0

Thats what I mean, talking to the council about it will have little or no effect. I remember going somewhere in our VW camper and taking the wrong turn, having a little dispute with my partner about the wrong turn, so I turned into a, what I think was a drive for flats, and a women came out waving her hands, just as I saw the "NO TURNING" sign, there was nothing I could do as it was done and I had not seen the sign soon enough!! I bet she got cars turning like I was all the time!!!!!! The best thing you can do is make it difficult to turn OR borrow a taylors dummy manakin, of a child and stand it on the middle of the drive, they will not want to turn in then

I think Collie26 means a 'jock' as in the way Americans use the word to describe a 'body-builder' type who is 'short' on intellect. Not another word for a Scot.

How about placing some big rocks/stoned at the edge of your garden to deter the lorries. If your place is anything like ours there should be some lying around waiting to be used for a 'project'.

I had to put sheep netting all around our paddock next to the road to stop dogs coming in to chase the ponies often with their owners watching.

Snapper correct and they just drive over the rocks no matter how big because its not their own waggon and just push them into the ground!
