can any one help? i bought 4 indian runner ducks last friday for my wives birthday they are only 5-6 weeks old and they all seemed very perky when they arrived, in the last 2 days two of them have become quite poorly. Both have laboured breathing,slightly unbalanced,eating but not a lot and po is watery green.Can any one help as this is our first time with ducks

But yes, sounds like coccidiosis - needs injectable or 'down the beak' antibiotics for ducks.

OMG, I am SO sorry to hear this. 

I've now lost ALL my ducks - Indian Runners and Khaki Campbells, all my beautiful ducks. You have exactly the same symptoms - I have to tell you I paid for a Post Mortem on one (I'd just bought new stock) and only this morning I've had it confirmed as DVE - duck viral enterites. My vets advice was to cull as even those who survive will always carry it now so any new stock are at risk.

I am incredibly upset - I thought my 2 remaining Khaki Campbells had survived but Betty is shows symptoms this morning....to be honest though I think culling them both is the kindest thing to do. Its a HORRIBLE disease and I'm really really sorry to be prepared for gruesome sights if you leave it to nature. I'm sorry to tell you that.

It killed 180 of the Queens swans in Windsor last week too. Brought in my Carrion or infected stock..usually gets the older birds and is transmitted through water mostly orally.

Let me know how you get on. I have been treating them with Baylix antibiotic down the beak but it's done nothing for mine....

Oh dear, that's desperately sad to hear, I'm really sorry for you - how is it transferred - it sounds like a mini-epidemic.

Officially duckless today :-(

Out my last 2 - one dead in the house and with the last one showing the same symptoms we culled it. It's truly horrific. Spread by carrion or infected stock and caught through water - ie drinking bowls.

How are you getting on with the IR's? Any improvements? Out of interest, where did you get them from and which part of the world are you based?
