Nice day out
« on: May 21, 2011, 05:11:35 pm »
After the horrible week I had, I wasn't sure about going to Fife Show today not to mention the forecast was rain..

But I decided it would be ok as the forecast changed to dry morning, wet afternoon, so I went over (all of 6 miles!) and got in right beside the gate into the heavy horse parking which was very convenient - spent most of the morning watching the highland pony inhand classes and then went for a coffee and a wander about.

Met my old boss and his family, plus a former colleague from another university, both in the poultry tent which was a bit spooky :o but then ran into NorthFifeDuckling, a few HP folk, and some poor Shetland sheep breeders from Haddington who I pestered with coloured sheepy questions in between their classes..  If you were that lady my apologies and thanks, I just couldn't help myself ;)

I found a few lambs I fancied popping into a pocket each but resisted and headed back to the poultry area where I had a loosely arranged possible remeeting with NFD but instead I got sidetracked into the RBST area by some extremely expensive chicken accommodation :o then spotted a few lovely piglets, had a look and started to wander back to poultry only to be waylaid by name :o and discovered Robert and Lillian were with said piggies so that was lovely too :)  One wee piggie was just so cute but having seen the size of mum I don't think he/she would be a suitable pet for me just now, sorry Robert ;D

Treated myself to chips on the way back to the ridden pony classes and the inhand championships but by then I'd had enough and was ready to head home so here I am, a person who strangely appears to have experienced a varied and enjoyable social day out after all :o

I'm glad you had a nice day up at Fife show Ellie  :) It just goes to show what a small world it is !
Wish I'd been as lucky at Kirky  :'( My marquee collapsed amidst the wind and rain and since I was tucked away round the back and not getting much footfall, I made the frustrating decision to pack up and head home - after only 3 hours  >:( But I wasn't going to let my poor wee piggies get a soaking and end up ill, nae chance  ;)
Are you free next weekend ? Lots to see at Lesmahagow show ;) ;D

Was nice to see you, too, Ellie  ;D
looking forward to that cake on Wednesday, it will keep any worrying thoughts at bay on the day. Sorry I didn't get back to the poultry tent in time, we fled into the cookery demo tent from the storm and got absorbed by chocolate  ;D ;D  :&>

Yes, the weather held out well didn't it, and wasn't to hot for the animals!!

Did you go into the pen and look at the housing??, i thought they looked quite nice until i had a look inside them and found that there was no room for the birds to move, and then on hearig the price i about keeled over  ;)

Hi Cameron, no I didn't peer in the chicken mansion, the price was too scary to dare look interested :o  I am waiting for B&Q or another DIY place to do a special offer on garden sheds, and keeping an eye on freecycle etc meantime, tho I don't have the dismantling/moving capacity for a pre-loved one unless it's from someone kind enough to do it for me ;)  I'm busy dismantling the shed roof that collapsed last winter now I finally found someone who could lend me the right tool (tiny socket which the wee hand ratchet is too big for :o ) for the hundreds of rivets ::)  Just one more day and that should be done but I have blisters from twiddling it ::)

NFD cake sounds fab but remembering I am not only veggie and mushroom allergic but now wheat free you may wish to just stick with a really nice ground/roast coffee unless you are making meringues or anything ;)  I can bring a couple of oatcake biscuits along but they're not very exciting ::)

Sadly Lesmahagow is too far a day out given fuel prices but have a great day out - I am due some weeding once I finish this shed roof - and am hoping a few of the metal sheets might be salvageable for something, perhaps a home made chicken shelter of some kind or at least bale top covers ;)
