has anyone ever stuck a raw carrot into a small garden shredder... ime thinking of getting a bag of feed carrots to supliment my duck feed as i have no growing grass etc due to the drought.... plus might bung some other green stuffin in it...if noone has could someone try a carrot and let me know before i buy a cheap one...thanks

what about a large food blender? will fit several carrots in it and chop them up nicely!

garden shredder will do £3.50 worth of carrots in no time (only a small 20 kg sack) if i had one id do it for a laugh

really want it to mulch i think so its more easy edible... prefer a garden one rather than a kitchen one so i can leave it on site

We only use our garden shredder for chopping up all kinds of veg which we feed to our pigs works a treat;cuts it all up quite finely.

pig feed ok but needs to be a lot smaller or finer for my ducks....because of the lack of vegitation (my geese and the drought).. i need some veg suppliment to many ducks (23)for a grater ...

I use a garden shredder to pulp apples before pressing them for cider and it works a treat.

With our shredder we can get carrot to a pulpy texture i should have mentioned that when we do this we have a flock of birds (hen and duck) all around us trying to get any i spill; we do mix some of it through their feed and it seems to go down very well; but more by the hens than the ducks .The ducks seem to prefer the greens any sort shredded and mixed with their food.

Stuck a carrot and in about a nano-second had coarsely grated carrot. I will think of this when I need to grate pounds and pounds of stuff for wine-making. Oh and the ducks said "Thanks, yum yum" By the way, the carrot came out as clean as a whistle despite lods of garden stuff going through first.

Never thought about trying this but sounds like a good idea.

Just be aware of shredding posionous shrubs and plants in the shredder such as laurel , ivy , privet , laburnum ( any evergreen ) .  Best to rinse the shredder out with a few kettles of fairly hot water before plugging it in and give it a couple of cold rinses .
 Would shredded cabbage be any good ..buy dutch cow cabbages etc  from a wholesale veg unit or ask them for some of their green waste . close to us we hsave a veg prep unit that preps for hospitals , schools and nursing homes etc. they sell their waste for compost usually but do on occasion seem to sent people away with small domestic trailers of green waste.
 Perhaps even a hotel or two could help with green waste as I think their cooked food should be seperate from compostable stuff.
