home wanted for my pretty boy
« on: May 13, 2011, 01:04:53 am »
I think I'm going to have to rehome my chocolate partridge wyandotte bantam cockerel  >:(
He was happily in with 7 hens & LS cockerel (they had an understanding - he was there first & bigger)
I got 2 little bantam hens for him & brought him up nearer the house with them but he started being very noisy & next door are moaning! I've put him back at bottom of garden in a coop & run within main run with his girls & he's still noisy. tried letting them all run together again but the 2 cocks were fighting, badly. He's a lovely looking boy & I don't want to part with him but am now getting on edge every time he crows (& starts the other one off)
Anyone interested in giving him a home? or even better any suggestions on how to make them live together peacefully again?

They won't live together peacefully, not at this time of the year at any rate. If kept separate they will challenge each other with crowing, if kept together they will fight.
Best thing is to get rid of one or the
other and even then the one that's left will challenge the cockerel half a mile away, or even himself ::)
What a shame neighbours can't enjoy the sound of a cockerel crowing. I'll bet they don't complain about traffic noise and that's always with us!

Hmmm, I thought the time of year might be a factor. The other neighbours in our row of 4 cottages aren't bothered, just the ones next door, Mrs. has lived on farms for 50 years & used to move out when they separated calves from cows as the mooing disturbed her! she also moans about light aircraft flying around.....I did have a polite conversation & pointed out that I haven't complained about their yappy little dog that barks if it hears a butterfly fart....I must admit the wee cockerel does go on & on, the big one is much quieter. Hate bad feeling tho' so if I can find someone to take him I will. Haven't told the neighbours one of his girls is sitting on 11 eggs!!

Glad the big one has settled down, shame about the wee one though. The light Sussex now has hundreds of  grand children, possibly even great grand kids  :)

He's been great Cameron & I think he would probably tolerate the wee one if it didn't keep going back & asking for more. Told my neighbour today I was going to rehome the bantam  & she started back tracking & saying he doesn't bother her now he's at the bottom of the garden so will just see how things go. I've been leaving what I think are the LS eggs and hoping one of them will sit on them & hopefully he'll have some more kids!
