Hello, new Landsharer here!
« on: May 10, 2011, 04:49:27 pm »
Hi,
Through the magic that is Landshare, I'm in shares on a 4 acre smallholding. I still cannot believe my luck, as the smallholding is only 600m from my house, the landowner is a super guy and there is enough space to raise pigs, run a few chickens and grow our own food.

I'm now frantically looking for help, particularly in regards to the livestock.

This is our first pig which should be delivered in a couple of weeks:

Isnt she a little beauty  :)

Anyway, justed wanted to say hello!

Hello Frank, and welcome to TAS.

Great to hear a Landshare success story, it's a great scheme and best of luck with your venture.

You said that lovely pig is 'your first pig', which suggests there will be more! Hopefully it's not going to be kept alone, or if so only for a very short time? Pigs need other pigs for company and good health.  :pig:

Anyway, if you've got livestock questions there are a lot of knowledgeable and helpful people on here, so don't be shy and ask away. The only stupid questions are the ones you don't ask.  :D

Hi Frank and welcome from north Cumbria.

Your text suggests that you posted a pic - maybe it's me but I can't see it?
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Hi welcome, second Dan, she is extremely cute, but kept alone its doubtful she will thrive, and she will certainly try to escape.

Just to put peoples minds at rest, she will not be alone. At present she is with her Mum, then she will be with two other pigs which are being delivered at the same time, but from a different breeder. I posted her picture, as she is the first and I don't have any pics of the other two yet!

I am on Landshare too. I'm really hoping that some land will become available for me soon. It is a great scheme!
I'm so glad it worked for you and what a very pretty pig.
