Heifer swap for Hampshire Down Lambs
« on: January 22, 2011, 02:26:40 pm »
Hello All ,I have 13 pregnant Hampshire Down ewes (one or two are crossed with Southdowns) which are due last week in Feb first week in March and I can't wait . I already have orders for 5 of the lambs which were really meaty but still lean last year . I have a couple of steers that I am fattening for beef ,I nearly gave up with these due to the weather but I'm glad I persevered .Anyway I would prefer to breed my own calfs rather than have to buy them in .I just wondered if anyone on here was looking for a few hampshire down lambs in exchange for maybe a heifer with calf /in calf .I really like the Devon reds but would consider anything .The most important thing would be temperament .
I know it's a long shot but you never know if you don't ask .Lambs could be for meat or kept for breeding stock

 Thanks all

   Joe

Bit of an ask with the swap, think a heifer with calf at foot is a little more than a few lambs...
Hampshires look great though, what area are u??

Well I suppose it is a trade up but 10 x fattened lambs @ £90 each or £120 dead & butchered (this is what I got last year) . Dexter Heifer with calf maybe £400 .Maybe should have said I do have some cash too, it's just you never know unless you ask ,someone could be looking for what you've got and vice versa .Have a couple of options to think about up to now ,but if you are interested I'm in South Yorks

 Thanks

Ah right, i thought u ment a few.. makes more sense with trade now!!  :)
Are you specifically looking for pedigrees/ x cross breeds with the heifers?
We are currently setting up our suckler herd of Pedigree Northern Dairy Shorthorns. Have hereford x heifers in calf with embryos which cant go but have hereford x's that were put to the NDS bull?? may be interested? None of our NDS girls are to go at mo as we are getting the numbers up 1st in the herd,
