Feed 6 months old wether
« on: February 22, 2026, 05:31:21 pm »
Hello,

After the loss of one of my pet wethers, I had to find the remaining one (Albert) a new companion - he is understandably very distressed - and was offered a 6 months old Valais blacknose wether. He will move in on Friday and I was hoping for some advice regarding food and getting the two boys used to each other.
Muppet, the new wether, has been fed soaked beet pulp and "harbro sheep crunch" so far. Albert only has hay and a bit of grass pellets.
I am new to the breed, so any advice would be greatly appreciated (I know, I'll need to shear him twice a year). Should I continue with the food he has been on or would you recommend something else?
Thank you!

I've no experience of the breed so won't comment on the target, but as with any animal but especially a herbivore, make changes in diet *very slowly*, so the gut bacteria have time to adapt.
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing
