Found a couple of ewes with fly strike a week ago and have successfully treated this attack with Crovect pour on when we found them.

Please could anyone tell me how long we need to leave after the Crovect treatment until we can treat them with Clik pour on for a longer term prevention/protection? Thanks

Just to clarify you treated maggots in a small area with the recommended 5-10ml  over a week ago ? if so then i would think that you could apply Clik now  and since it only sticks to wool then you can go around any bare  bits

They have large bare patches on their sides where wool was pulled off by something that attacked them (most likely a dog) that were more apparent after shearing. It was the small puncture wounds from being bitten where they got the fly strike.

We treated the fly strike with Crovect, the wounds with antibiotic spray and gave them a course of Penstrep plus some painkiller/anti inflammatory shot. They are now recovering well.

We had planned to Clik them to prevent fly strike and were just waiting until they were sheared. I don't know how long I need to wait until I can Clik them to prevent any further fly strike.

I’m sure someone will confirm but with clik as it works through the fleece you need to give it a few weeks for the fleece to regrow a little prior to applying - with no fleece they’ll be less prone to fly anyhow (although never say never!)

Clik Extra can be applied off shears (straight after shearing). Clikzin needs 3 weeks. Not sure about Clik.


I doubt it’s been tested but seeing you’ve waited a week and are using a different active ingredient I would think you’ll be ok.

Thank you, that's very helpful. It is Clik Extra that we are using for the flock. We've done all the others after shearing except for these two girls because of the fly strike.

After the stress of what they have been through I wasn't sure if they would survive but they seem determined to get over it. They just look dreadful with the bare skin and wounds covered in blue spray.

I’m new to this with sheep generally.

So after shearing I treated mine with crovect.

None had fly-strike (somehow!) but reading this I should have used Clik?

They all look ok, flies are all around but just general flies.

Does clik totally mean flies go nowhere near? We have a fly spray too for quick sprays on them.

Between this and why to worm them with I feel clueless!

You are fine with Crovect  , you just have to retreat every 6-8wks it will also kill ticks and lice plus kill any maggots that develop on the sheep , the down side is when used to prevent blow flies it only protects the fleece where the spray lands it does not spread  ,   Clikzin , Clik &  Clik -extra are all different strength's of the same product , so last for different length's of protection . They do not keep flies away but work by not allowing the maggots to develop normally so they die ,they are insect growth regulators . The product spreads once applied and then binds to the wool  BUT they kill nothing else no lice or ticks and wont kill maggots on a untreated sheep  . look up crovect or clik  on NOAH for full data sheet
