Hi All,

like most of your birds, mine have been hiding in their coop for about the last 3 weeks as the snow and -15 temps left them feeling cold and miserable. The sun is out today and a little of the snow is retreating just enough to entice my birds out to play. I have just popped out to take a pic of my Marans (ish) chicks at almost 6 weeks to plot their development so I thought that I would share them with you. I still have no idea what sex they are though so feel free to speculate if you think you can tell.

Edward my cockerel also joined in the photo shoot and Hatty wanted to show off her brand new feathers,

Roll on spring!

lovely.

our Marans (black copper) changed colour with their growing out of chick feathers - it was hard to sex them until they were quite mature, and the combs made it clearer.

and still no eggs yet ....    ::)

Mmm,

the last batch of chicks I hatched were wyandotte bantams and it was pretty clear by 4  weeks who the male was. These two are keeping me guessing though.

Hi CarolW

I have just got an Rcom Suro incubator so I hope to take up your kind offer of eggs next year when I have sorted out my duck accomodation. The chicks are Marans with a pinch of something else somewhere along the line. The Cockerel is a blue Croad Langshan Bantam. He would be frowned upon by any show judge as they only recognise black and whites but I think the blues are lovely. Here are some pics of some of my croad langshan hens, Daisy May and Bluebell last summer.
