« on: November 17, 2010, 06:28:22 pm »
pigs now happly resting in our very large chest freezer!!
had two chops last night and was very pleased with the taste ( when it comes to any meat i dont waste time in thinking
about flavour, i just LOVE meat ! )
unfortuanly i had no beer or cider to add to the moment, but went out today and came home with cans of bitter ;)
looking forward to the next time esp now that i will be able to have a glug or two ;D

Did you have saddlebacks langdon? I think I remember you got your around the same time as mine? Can I ask what age/weight they were when slaughtered/

Many thanks :)

i think i may have got it wrong....my cider is already in the pigs!! thye had it for a nightcap the day before their trip to the abattoir ;D ;D . Maybe i should have saved some for the first tasting on Saturday.I pick up the meat early saturday morning. Then its sausage making for the rest of the weekend.

Yep, i think i'll buy some more cider.

they were 6 mths of age, maybe a week or two over 6 mths.
the heaviest was 78. 8 kg and the second was 73. 8 kg.
a little heavier than i wanted, a bit more fat with them, the last pigs we had weighed in at 68-70 kg, i find this weight
more pleasing.
but as i said im going to enjoy them as those cold wet nights were a drag at times!

Large bottle of white wine with mine.  Also mandatory for making sausages.  The wine goes in me not the sausages.

Mine are booked in for 29th and will be 28 weeks. Im going to measure them later to give me a rough idea of their weight. Thanks for your reply...it's nice to compare so you know if your doing the right thing...as these are my first pigs and I have found this site invaluble for info!

I can't wait to taste mine! :pig:
