Hello!
« on: March 21, 2021, 03:30:06 pm »
Hi

We're in the process of getting our house up for sale and relocating. Where we currently live (Jersey) is prohibitively expensive, and my husband has finally seen the light and agreed that moving to the mainland is a great idea...!

We're considering a smallholding, not anything too huge but just space for chickens / ducks, possibly goats, and fruit / veg. To begin with anyway! Chickens, fruit, and veg we currently do where we are (but on a very small scale due to space). Also would ideally like something where we have space to add some glamping pods or convert barns for self-catering. So a few acres I suppose.

We were looking at Gloucestershire, but also considering Lancashire and Yorkshire.

Anyway - my main question is, where are the best places to register / look for what's on the market? I keep falling down Google holes and yet not having much success. I'm aware that lots of places are being snapped up incredibly quickly, so I figure registering is perhaps our best bet so we're notified when something comes up.

Thanks!

Can't help: I don't know where/who best to register with as a potential buyer @Sherlock2207 (maybe someone else will), but welcome to the forum.

I can imagine how quickly properties are snapped up right now - wishing you good luck though.

Hello and welcome  Can't really help with the query as I'm in Scotland. I've heard the market is incredibly buoyant at the moment.

Hi Sherlock

Welcome to the forum!

I've never been to Jersey but had neighbours who moved there from Yorkshire many years ago and my dad loved Jersey.
Sounds exciting what you're planning  :)
I used to live in Yorkshire but can't think of an obvious place to try. However if you're planning on doing self catering + if you want to sell any produce at some point once you get established I'd suggest somewhere not too far out from a small market town which is popular with tourists staying in the area as well + farmers market etc?
Sorry I can't be more help!
