Wanted Copper Maran Cockerel
« on: February 21, 2015, 08:28:57 pm »
Hi all, I am looking for a handsome boy to go with my lovely Maran girls, ideally 2014 hatch, and from a dark egg laying strain. We will provide a great free range home with lots of super care and attention to a docile rooster, no killers please I have two young children!! Does anyone breed Marans or know someone who does?
I am in the Tamar Valley near Callington in Cornwall.
Thanks in advance!

It'll help if you say where you are located
Shetland sheep, Copper Marans chickens, Miniature Silver Appleyard ducks, and ginger cats.

Don't have a spare cockerel (and completely the wrong side of the country) but I have a beautiful hen hatched from a hatching egg from http://www.southyeofarm.co.uk/poultry/our_breeds.html. It's just confused me because they're not listed amongst their main breeds but if you scroll right down, it says they're adding them for 2013 so I think the website is out of date. Mine is laying beautiful eggs now (darker than the Cuckoo Marans I got from them). So worth seeing whether they have any spare cockerels or whether you could just get some hatching eggs in from them to get some fresh blood.

I'll be setting some eggs this week so should have some spare boys off heat in 8 weeks or so but it'll be July or so before they are treading.
