Hi there,

I m just about to move to my new life with my partner (who is on here already) marka, and our 2 girls.  We have are about to take on a small holding of approximately 13.5 acres, just outside of Keith Banffshire, we are moving from Accrington, Lancashire.  We are looking to take on some cows, sheep, chickens a couple of horses and grow some lovely veg.

Any advice or tales of your experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Kirsty

welcome from Aberdeenshire! We have sheep (Shetlands, about 35 at present plus 6 Herdwicks and their cross lambs), geese, chickens and 2 horses plus two dogs and two sheepdogs.
We did briefly have cattle but I found them lovely but find sheep more manageable with the set up here.
We are very exposed weather wise here, not sure if your new place is too but happy to answer any questions about mistakes we have made along the way as have been here for 5 years now.

Hi from the hills of Moray.

We've been here 7 years - started with a few weaners, got carried away with cattle and dabbled with sheep and are sometimes 'drowning' in eggs.

I try to grow a bit of veg - mostly under cover in a poly tunnel as it's too windy here to grow stuff like beans out side.

Good luck with your new home and happy smallholding.

Sue

My parents live just a few miles from your new venture and I too lived in Lancashire. You are moving to a beautiful part of Scotland and won't regret it one bit.
Having said that I chose Skye! But good luck........
