Young GOS Breeding Boar - Herefordshire
« on: June 24, 2015, 03:18:31 pm »
Born 21.12.14 so ready to work next month.  Pedigree, birth notified Rufus boar, can be registered.  Excellent conformation, temperament and markings, growing away very well.

Hi Gillian - hope you're well? I may be interested. Is he related to Nancy who I got from you? She and her offspring are doing really well by the way.

Glad to hear all's well with your herd.  Nancy's mother is his aunt, so they have a grandmother in common.  The sire is unrelated and a different male bloodline entirely.

So daft novice question - would he be ok to run with Nancy given the distance of female relationship and no sire relationship?
Thanks

Well .... first cousins are allowed to wed in humans!  None of the piglets born here have had any kind of deformity or even a mild fault like being a bit down on the pasterns.  We've never had a runt in a litter and none have failed to thrive so, in my opinion, with the unrelated sire from a completely different bloodline thrown into the mix, the chances of problems are minimal.  One can never be absolute certain, of course, but that's true of any mating.

Sure, I'm around all week .... 28 degrees on Thursday, according to the weather forecast, so probably lying on a sunbed with a glass of Pimms No. 1 to hand.. (Oops, must be dreaming again.)

If only, eh?
I have just sat down after day of moving pigs and all their gear into the woodland where it's much more shady and cool. They're really happy, I am a broken woman!

34 degrees out on the yard yesterday.   I hosed 'em off with tepid water every hour then turned it on myself.
