Was wondering if anyone has had much success with AI ing there pigs?
Where to purchase from etc?

We’ve a 10 month old gilt here and seeing as no boars to hire locally, we’re thinking of giving it a try.

I have ai'd a few times. I do have the advantage of having a boar on the yard so I let the sow out and she goes and stands at his pen.

You can get semen from Deerpark in Ireland. They send on a next day delivery.

You need to make a note of when you girl is standing and then you know when to order. If the sow isn't properly on heat and standing the catheter wont lock in place and the semen will run out. The semen lasts three days so there is some leeway.

I'd be happy to have a chat with you if you want to send me a pm.

I’m trying to look into this also for our mangalitsa guilt.

Does the vet do it?

I don’t overly relish having a boar tbh so thinking ai might be the best option

Not usually a vet thing, no.  The kit from Deerpark comes with instructions :)
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing

Technically its not a difficult procedure - timing is the key to success.
