Smallholders Insurance

We are new to smallholding, having got 3 1/2 acres now with sheep, a tractor and other farm paraphenalia.
we've got  various outbuildings and now require, i assume, specific smallholders insurance.  can anybody help with a good company/broker?

I have just contacted NFU, who are coming out to see us re our requirements, but they didn't seem that impressed with our small acreage and that we are labelled, by DEFRA, as hobby farmers

Many thanks

NFU are very good and insure more than farms, we are insured by them with everything but did no need them to come out for a visit.

Try the brokers Stuart Benger & Co in Shrewsbury (01743 462277). I've been with them for about four years.
They're linked to Farmsure Underwriters (www.farmsure.co.uk)
Think I pay about £270 a year, which covers livestock, machinery, third party, etc

I've just taken out my insurance with the NFU as they seem to offer better cover than some of the other insurers. House, land and machinery.

Also, with the NFU, they have offices where you can go and speak face to face with someone and not sombody in a call centre who quite often is half way round the planet!
