Anyone lost 30 goats?
« on: November 20, 2013, 02:32:29 pm »
Had a routine visit from animal welfare today and he was telling me about 30 goats dumped in the Scottish Borders, they are now at a farm park near Jedburgh so if you hear of anyone missing some goats? They were all either untagged or had tags cut out.
Did wonder if perhaps they had been stolen and become too hot to handle so were dumped! :goat:

confused....first post says 3 goats  !!!!!
Almost certainly they have been dumped !    This just proves the futility of ear tags for permanent ID !!!

Don't wrestle with pigs, they will love it and you will just get all muddy.

Let go of who you are and become who you are meant to be.

Haven't there been a few posts on here about stolen goats? Could there be a link? Some pics would help as people would know their goats presumably.

What sort of goats?

There are feral/Old English goat herds on the borders.......(and goats are more than capable of losing their ear tags without tearing their ears - don't ask me how, must be a goat trade secret).

No idea what kind but these were very happy to be herded up and led into a barn with a bag of feed so doubt that they we're ferrel AH inspector didn't seem to think so anyway.

I just hope the AH inspector isn't going to go round and check all local goatkeepers.... :o
Surely if someone has had 30 goats stolen then they would have informed the police/their local AH dept? and then it should be easy to check out where they are from? so maybe they aren't stolen...

I suppose, if they are stolen, there's nothing to say that they all came from the same herd. The 30 could be made up of small numbers from lots of keepers.

see earlier post by Reedos re stolen goats (August) - any chance of a connection - could some of them have originated from there?
