Hi All

Total newbie here, lived in London for 40 years now moved to a smallholding in south Wales. We will be raising some weaners to pork weight for the freezer over the next few months, just putting in the pens and arcs etc.

Can anyone help with details of slaughter houses in South Wales that will take pigs, any help much appreciated.

Hi mate :) i would recommend Maddock Meats in Maesteg. I'm from South West Wales.  I took mine to there a few months ago and i was very pleased with them.  We went down there before we took our pigs to A) Find out where it was as we're not local) and B) to get a lay of the land so to speak and C) To make sure that i had the proper paperwork and to ask questions that i needed to ask.  The man is called Collwyn or something and he's really nice.

Welcome to Wales

Hi Welshlass

Thanks for the info. Loving it here in Wales. should've done it years ago.

On one of your earlier posts you mention slaughter for £20 per pig was this at Maddock Meats? We're on a really tight budget so any help / advice on keeping costs down is gratefully received.

The ones i took were small Kunes so they charged me £20 each.  The biggest one that we took down was skinned (due to a skin rash) and boned and she weighed 34kg.  If you take bigger breed down they charge £0.16 per KG of dead weight meat.  The best thing you can do is give them a call and speak to Collyn on 01656 739073 amd tell him what your plan is and he'll give you the best advice.

They go down on a monday (pre-booked) and collect on a friday afternoon.
