Is there an increased chance with rams being struck over ewes?
We've had two older lambs caught with flystrike, both boys, 1 lived the other did not. (not mine btw, but grazing on our land)
Just interested in Dot's point about urine - maybe dagging stops girls getting nasty mucky wool but boys bits aren't dagged (as such) especially first year of life.
It's always worth tipping the males and trimming around the widdly bits - just make sure the daggers don't slip
That bit should always be checked just before tupping too, penis as well as the wool because sometimes if there have been gungy bits around the penis it can become inflamed and then the boys won't want to work. I think it varies with the fleece type - we have seen that in a Gotland.
Don't worry about putting me off my food luckylady - a bit of starvation will do me no harm at all
