Hi Everyone,
I am about to purchase two does for milking. I have milked cows in the past and wanted to try goats this time. Both does are Anglo Nubian crosses. One doe is 4 years old (Anglo Nubian x Black Saanen) and she has never been put with a buck. However, she has been bagging up around spring time for the last two years. This will be the third year that she has produced milk without being in kid. The owner has not ever milked her but did get the vet out both times to check her. The vet said that it was hormonal and not uncommon and that it was a sign of good milking bloodlines. When the vet milked her he apparently got 1 liter (approximately 1 quart).
Since it is almost Spring here in Australia she is starting to bag up again.
I haven't seen her in person yet, but am going to look at her in five days time. What I'm wondering is, since she hasn't been milked the past two years could she/her udder be damaged/unhealthy? What can I do to bring her into milk (since she's doing it anyway) and does anyone have any tips for me?
Thank you all very much.
