Brown edged leaves on strawberries
« on: June 29, 2013, 11:00:59 am »
Some of my strawberries have got these well demarcated brown areas on their leaves. I would say it's affecting about 10% of the strawberry plants.

I have tried looking in Dr Hessayon but can't find anything similar.

Any suggestions?

The particular leaf with the brown bits looks crinkled, as if it has a virus or greenfly.  My strawbs get all sorts of stuff like that but I still get plenty of fruit  :yum:

Sorry, I don't know a definitive diagnosis  :D  but I'm sure someone will

I've got the same problem and don't know what it is - have been taking off the worst affected.

Me too!  Although I put it down to being burnt in the sun with no water for a few days.  Good crop.

Like Fleecewife, mine get all sorts. As long as the fruits are growing healthy I don't worry. ( maybe I should be more caring  :innocent: )

I don't think the sun could have caused it - not around here, anyway... ;D

No - definitely not the sun :-))

The birds are stating to show an interest so we'll be netting them this weekend. Good that they've had a good wetting before the (supposed) sun coming at the end of the week :-)

I'm beginning to think it might be some kind of fungus - looked a bit like reddish rust on the underside of the leaves I examined today. But doesn't seem to do any harm to the fruit - so who cares?  ;)

One red strawberry so far - I've put protection over them, too...

It might be spider mite especially if there are find cobwebby bits on the underside of the leaves :-\

Well ours have romped away over the summer and developed into big crowns. Not a huge amount of fruit but they are only year one so am hopeful for a bigger offering next year :-))
