Value of Old Dexters
« on: July 17, 2019, 12:26:57 am »
Hi
Iíve been offered an opportunity to purchase some Dexter cattle 2 of which are 10year old females both have had calves in the past. Iíve been asked to make an offer for them. Any idea what they are worth and whatís best to do with them. Local butcher told me the meat is likely to be slow cook only or dog food in his opinion. Any idea what I should offer if at all? Thanks

Theyíll have a meat value but itíll be lowish.  Your local livestock auction will publish sale reports, look at the cull cow price, which will be pence per kilo liveweight.  Maybe 50% of the average for their type?
Don't listen to the money men - they know the price of everything and the value of nothing

Live in a cohousing community with small farm for our own use.  Dairy cows (rearing their own calves for beef), pigs, sheep for meat and fleece, ducks and hens for eggs, veg and fruit growing
