Title: Sorry and goodbye
Post by: Rosemary on January 29, 2014, 12:27:10 pm
To those of you who have taken offence to any comment made by me, I am sorry that you were offended. It was never my intention to do so.

Those of you who know me will know that I am certainly not anti-English but I am pro-Scottish independence and I don't make a secret of it.

Since some folk have a problem spotting the difference and I have no wish to have my knuckles rapped yet again, I will bid you farewell!

What really gets me is that I KNOW shygirl and I couldn't have told you she was English. I could tell you what kind of pigs, dogs and cattle she has though.

Sorry that you feel that you can't express your views freely here. I'm english by birth, but have lived in Scotland since i was 15 and I support independence and self governance for Scotland and have enjoyed the fact that this website allows  views from all sides to be aired rather than much of the information presented by the pro-union press, which tends to be sensationalist and based on little substance and also paints  pro-independance as being anti - english, its not!

it's not about building a big wall to keep english people out, there are lots of us who choose to live and work here. Its about finding a different way to make Scotland the best place it can be.

The policies designed at Westminster are designed for the majority of the UK population, which simply due to numbers are those living in England and always will be. The issues that need addressed in Scotland are often very different and solutions which work south of the border often have very little impact here.

It's simply about self governance and democracy. I would ask that you don't withdraw from the forum and don't let the Bullies win. let the issues around independance be discussed freely and respectfully by all participants as they impact on smallholders as much as any other citizens.

Rosemary, I wouldn't want you or anyone to leave-I really appreciate the apology and explanation though. It can be difficult to communicate jokey comments in such a thread and it appears I took the comment the wrong way and for that I apologise. Having been subjected to racism (which is what the OP experienced in that thread)  by extended family and even in public, I am sensitive to it.

This is a topic that's going to come up alot and I honestly respect those opinions in favour of Independence, its an emotive topic though.

Maybe a political thread/board might be a good idea? those that don't want to engage dont have to and those that do well 'whats said in the thread, stays in the thread'?

eta I am not a bully, I reported a comment that I found 'iffy'. I was not the only person to object to the comment but I couldnt reply to the thread as it was locked.

Rosemary, I am probably one of the ones who got narked.  I dont object to your passion for Scotland, I just dont really want to see it appear on a smallholder forum.

There is absolutely no need to follow through with your statement - in fact it would be quite wrong for the forum if you were to leave it.

We specifically put boards on that were not smallholding related - Coffee Lounge, Current Affairs (jeez, THAT was fun), Jokes and funnies (another one that's caused a few "issues") for those who wanted to involve themselves in topics other than those directly related to smallholding. There's no compulsion to read them.

And thanks, for not objecting to my passion for Scotland. I feel better now.  :)

No, it's not right for you to leave Rosemary.

I love TAS it's enormously helpful and I am so indebted to your creation of it, really.

I do think that areas for current affairs etc are calling out for friction to happen though.  I never go in them now actually, just stick to smallholding matters, I can't be bothered with all this falling out and people getting shirty and over sensitive.

Let's just stick to smallholding folks, that's why we all came across TAS in the first place and it's brilliant.

Can't people have an adult discussion on here without someone taking the hump and threatening to leave.

So your Scottish/English/Welsh/Irish... whatever, who gives a damn.

There are terrible things going on in the world and we get upset about feeling excluded.

You fit in right where you are. It's not an issue for me - I was kind of hurt that anyone should think that it was. I LOVE ENGLISH PEOPLE.

Anyway, once we're independent, we'll sequester Northumberland and Cumbria  ;D (That's a joke, for the avoidance of doubt).

OK, rough translation.
"No lass, stay as you are here, it is not time for you to finish (leave) as you have said nothing that should put peoples noses out of joint.  Give yourself a few days to settle then come back (to the forum).
There are a lot of people here who value you more than you might suspect.
Your photos and writing about your cattle are what has made me determined to get Shetlands and I reckon that there are others that would say the same.
I will be voting with you so don't feel that you are a lone voice out there.

I avoid the 'Coffee Lounge' on this (and any other forums) for this very reason. :)

This forum is about smallholding, is it really a place where people should be venting their day-to-day troubles?

(And yes some folk do need to learn how to write properly!  A bit of proper spellin', punctuation and grammar never hurt anyone, but it makes things so much easier to read for the rest of us!! (regardless of the language) :))

I went to the other thread expecting a catalogue of insult on insult, blood stained keyboards and shattered mouses..... all in the cause of pointing out that someone on the internet is WRONG!

I listened to this bit, though.  I kinda like it... :D)

And, because I know you in real life as well as on here and FB, I know that you are the very last person to ever be or say anything anti-English  :-* :-*   Anti-English-government, heck yes!  But anti-English people, no, never.

And I also love that you have an acerbic wit and are very human.  ;)

I had a cat once had a highly-developed sense of right.  If I went to reprimand him and it was his fault, he'd take it like a man.  If it wasn't his fault, he'd hold his paw up and refuse to accept the ticking off.  He would also put his paw up in front of the dog if I was about to tick the dog off, and it wasn't the dog's fault.

Dan   - this is me putting my hand up in front of Rosie !  It wasnae her fault!  Actually I thought the whole thread did well - bound to be emotive and I thought we debated well and without insult or ill humour.   I was really surprised to see it locked.

Rosie, you can't possibly leave, that's bonkers.

But I'm actually glad you started this thread - it's been one of the most fun threads I've read in ages!   :roflanim:

As others have said you are the tas and it would not be anything like the same without you.  I personally felt that the supposed offending remark was clearly tongue in cheek.  The way it ws phrased made this obvious.  Though as others have also said the Internet is not always the best place to indulge in such banter as it can be difficult to pick up some of the more subtle nuances of communication.  My own problem with that thread was not your remark at all but the way that it became increasingly testy.  Like others have said I prefer my tas when its about animals and smallholding issues.  Tho I guess I just need to stay out the coffee lounge in future. . You have created my most valuable resource in looking after my livestock for which I thank you.  I sincerely hope you don't go anywhere

The good old art of conversation, if people don't agree with what someone says and they know each other, why not speak to each other rather than put it on a forum. See it all the time on Facebook. A simple misunderstanding blown out of all proportion from what I can see, just my opinion.
As it is miserable weather outside  :gloomy: I realised there is a more important topic in here, how about letting England vote on whether Scotland gets Independence, think I know the answer to that one.  :innocent: :innocent:

Guys, have a little sensitivity, can't you.

This thread got started because Rosemary found herself in hot water partly because of her passion for an independent Scotland.

You've used the 'stirring' icon, BB, and that's exactly what you are doing.  Do it if you must, but do it somewhere else on your own thread, don't create unpleasantness in Rosemary's apology thread.

Thanks, Dan (my English OH), Sally (my English friend) - but really, most days I can deal with this sort of post and recognise it for the  :stir: that it is.

I took it as humour, Hazel Hollow  :)

Thanks almost everyone for all your kind words - tizaala was right (patronsing old git icon here and  ) - I spat out the dummy. Head now duly patted and feeling  :sunshine: .

Glad you took it the way it was meant, It's not the people that get us wound up, it's the governments. And you know 99% of my posts are  :-J  anyway . I think I can say we all love Rosemary and Dan and are grateful for all their hard work.

Dan  i am curious as to why my tongue in cheek comments put me in the gutter when blatant racist anti English comments in other posts go unchecked.

<sigh> I've had the same endless exchange with Bodger. Please point out the 'blatant racist anti English comments' and we can deal with them. You're making serious allegations without providing any evidence.

'Tongue in cheek'? Maybe you should familiarise yourself with the smiley for that, or did your hand slip and you got 'stirring' instead?  ;)

Yes, and me. I haven't seen any and I am English.

Rosemary, I think it was very gracious of you to apologise when you hadn't actually done anything wrong.  :bouquet:

What I find sad....is that IMO only...I may stress....and my perception of the way the thread was going.....that it is.the wrong person apologising.....impassioned yes......a little strong   yes maybe.......but the other contender was just downright belligerent and not for the first time.......

I hope this is an end to it all... :bouquet:

Well, Padge, it's transferred to another thread on Scottish independence  :)

I will lock this one - thanks for kind words. Much appreciated.
