We're half hour south of Edinburgh in Scottish Borders - got a good 4 inches plus and snowing at the moment, stunning but an effort to get through, to continue for the next week accord to forecasts. :D
How you all doing out there  - People of Wales will we ever see you again ?
-
just outside alloa scottish central belt maybe an eighth of an inch, occasional flurries but mainly clear sunshine!!!!
please ship all spare snow to me please i have disappointed kids!!!
-
There's a wee bit on my front paddock - not quite enough for a snowman, maybe a few snowballs though. Lane a bit slippy. Will have to spread some grit. Must get out dogs need a run.
-
A good 4-5 ins here, thunder storm this morning at about 7 am , definitely was wide awake after that , sunny now with just a few flurries of snow.
-
I'm in Carmarthenshire on highish ground. We have had about 3 inches here so nowhere near as bad as those in South Wales. .
Judging by the forecast its just going to be very cold here but not much more snow.
-
Barely a covering here in north Cumbria. We've got off lightly so far.
-
6 inches on the hills near Aboyne with a LOT more to come on Monday especially but also Tuesday. Kind of used to it here tho!
-
 a good 4-6 inches here :excited: and still flurrying :snowman: main roads have been kept reasonably clear. Out with dogs ( and sledges again ) after dinner :excited:
Thought I'd better add that the boys will be coming too ;D
-
We have still got the couple of inches that fell on Tuesday here in Suffolk, nothing fresh to speak of in the last 24 hours, they say we will be getting some Sunday off the North Sea. I also have a disappointed teenager. Waters all very frozen though so lots of bucket carrying, but beautiful scenery
-
about 5 inches deep here in central Derbyshire,
it varies abit between the high & lower ground, so you might hear different!!
-
a good (well I can call it good now neil is home!!) 4-6 inches here in Bala n Wales... First time back on skis in 10 years and the BEST use of our quad bike EVER!!!!
-
mines all gone its not fair
need a tantrum icon i think!!!!!!
-
We have a couple on inches nothing to worry about unless the wind gets up. More due on Monday though. Watching the news on TV you would think it was a disaster. People need to learn to drive in it and be prepared. think of all those trying to keep roads open.
-
In Lincoln area, the snow is about 3 inch's deep. Lovely here ;D
-
Hardly any here too, outside Falkirk. There was a shower last night, but much has melted in the sun- fields are green. Was snowing in Lanark at the Scottish national poultry show though!
Beth
-
Bionic ... very pleased to hear not much there. I'm staying near Rhos where there is also only a couple of inches..... so looks like moving in on Wednesday should be OK ..... HURRAY!!!!
Linda
-
mines all gone its not fair
you're welcome to some of ours!
I love how pretty it is, but feel for the animals and those who struggle to keep warm.
And having to walk to and from work at 5 miles a go, for the next week or so (ok, so I walk anyway most of the time, but its harder in a blizzard!) I wouldn't mind a thaw by Sunday night!
going to get some photos...
-
A few flurries here in Carnoustie but the sun's melted any that was lying. Very windy though, which makes it feel quite cold.
-
We have 6 inches in the hills of Powys. Lane wasn't passable yesterday afternoon.
-
A thick and very pretty 6 inches in Hampshire by mid-afternoon yesterday, Friday. Since then it has got much warmer and today much of it is melting away, thankfully most of the roads are clear as a result. Tamsaddle
-
we are on the black mountain carms and we have had a couple of inches but the drifts in the yard are worse!
-
We have none ???
I think it's supposed to come..........but who knows ::)
-
Victorian Farmer are you out there?
Just wanted to say you were right about the end of January!!! :snowmanhead:
-
Like talc on the bathroom floor, hardly any!
-
We've got 6-8 inches here in Anglesey. Quite a lot fell yesterday afternoon then another load between about 9pm and midnight. Very unusual to have this much snow here we usually get rain when it's snowing everywhere else. Took this pic last night before it snowed again.

-
:P not a flake!!!
been out strimming the grass on the overcroft ready for tattie planting :farmer:
-
It was very deep here on Friday , so deep that my scribble serpent neighbours could not get into the DVLA for work
It is 18 miles away all the roads and the M4 is dry and clear , but they did manage to drive past it and go into Swansea shopping in the St Davids centre . It must have been .... Ooooh say 2 inches maximum through out the day so long as it was not disturbed .
Meanwhile in my garden it is barely an inch deep and reducing by the minute and that is after several long periods of light flurries overnight till 0600 this morning
-
We have none ???
I think it's supposed to come..........but who knows ::)
Hope it waits until after the poultry show tomorrow ;)
-
We have about 2 feet accumulated over the winter so far here in Jämtland. I know that is cheating but we normally have twice as much.
Last year we had 6 inches on the 20 May but it soon melted.
-
We've only had a sprinkling here really, but it shows no sign of melting. Meteo has just changed its mind again, saying we could have a bit more overnight and tomorrow morning. It has been very overcast all day, very full of something that's for sure. Ive just been out to get the wood in and although the thermometer says its warmer than yesterday, it felt very cold indeed My bones ache now as I sit huddled by the fire!!

And Alfie is up to his belly in it....
-
I'm in Somerset and we had 8 inches :excited: :excited:
The most we have had in decades ;D ;D
-
None here...zero...zilch and we're about as far north as you can get on the mainland :P
-
6 foot drifts along our drive when we woke up this morning. Chicken house roof just poking out of the top of a drift in the yard, another 4 foot drift in the calves pen, even had over a foot blown into the stables through the gap under the big external door. Everything is frozen.
The snow is so fine & came with a swirling wind so it has blown in everywhere. The quad was parked up in the open barn & was buried - we had to pull it out with the tractor. Tried digging the drive (over quarter of a mile) out with a bucket on the tractor but got it stuck. The wind is still strong & biting today, but we have had lovely blue skies. The dogs & horses have been playing in the drifts. Great time had by all, apart from the chickens who didn't want to come out of their house again for the second day running, although we still had eggs!
It's very pretty & it's not rain, so no complaints from me today!
-
Only got snow on the tops of the mountains here on Mull . Down here at sea level nothing :( . Feel like I'm missing out.
-
Wow Nickie, buried quads and chicken houses sounds pretty epic.
About 6" here on Mon and then just another couple last night which blew around a lot.
-
Yes Jaykay, the drifts are amazing. However there are completely bear areas as well. I guess if it was an even covering it would be less than a foot. It's just that the drifts have been strategically placed to cause maximum disruption!
-
Nothing huge in Kent - enough for a snowman and a bit of sledging but the roads are still clear - perfect. But it's still cold so it's not going anywhere (although now it's very windy so it is going somewhere - into drifts) and I think there's more coming up from France soon. Kids are very excited, especially as their homework this weekend was all about watching the weather forecast and plotting it onto a map - snow seemed to make it much more doable.
H
-
not even a flake for me, but dad had 4 inches up plymouth.
but im just happy it stopped raining for a day. managed to get loads of wood collected and chopped, so i do hope it finally gets cold!
-
Me neither, not a flake in Dumfries and galloway
-

About 6 inchs here - Near Norwich, Norfolk.
:cold: Tilly
-
here in the carms hills it's 3-6 inches, but it was a screaming gale when it fell (yesterday) so there are drifts everywhere - like Nickie there's as much snow in the open sheds as in the yard, and more than on the open fields. 4x4s have been driving up & down the lane so that's sheet ice now :( .
-
Here is Shropshire, we've had a
good bad 4 -5 inches and drifts in places. Anyone who wants any can have the lot as far as I'm concerned.
My lovely friend came and cleared my front path and the slope up to the car so I can get to church tomorrow, and is picking me up so I don't have to drive. OH followed behind her with the rock salt so it is well gritted now.
-
My 10yr old son has made a good walletfull today with people asking him to clear pathways
He cleared our paths and the thick icy car and van 7am every morning this week so I'm out of pocket big time now but it was lovely driving to work in a ready heated vehicle when it was -6 outside :innocent:
( it was his own idea, child services, honestly :o )
-
Bless him, MS
I called my folks last night, they've had about 7" in south Staffs (as was - it's all "West Midlands" now.) 2 years ago, my Mum, then 80, had been clearing snow for her neighbours and fallen, ended up having a new hip for Christmas... ::) I was glad to hear that this time, their (considerably less aged) neighbours had been out clearing Mum and Dad's snow, rather than the other way about!
-
After a week of snow it thawed and chucked it down with rain yesterday ( Department -La Creuse, France) . Woke up this morning to a few inches of snow and it is still chucking it down.
Our rabbits seem to prefer it outside and may need digging out soon.
-
:o Sally, that's awful. How inconsiderate of your mum's neighbours.
The snow is like thick ice today but there are plans for more sledging :excited: Must take it easy today, I'm aching in places I dont think muscles should be, from sledging and snowball fighting yesterday :innocent:

ppd hope you get your share soon :fc:

3 or 4 inches here in North Yorkshire and sky looks full of the stuff, have posted some piggy snow pics in pig forum.
mandy :pig:
-
The sky is really heavy again here today, according to Meteo we will get a good covering overnight. I really hope not though cos the nurse is due tomorrow morning, and the one that is on duty tomorrow doesnt have a 4x4 like the other one. I drove down to the bakery in the village this morning and all out roads are clear in the main but it is soooo cold. I think its the damp air that really gets into the bones. I ache all over. Im sitting in the sofa with a hot water bottle up my back as I write this!
-
Still snowing here adding to the foot we already have, the blizzard filled the dutch barn showing us last night's foxy visitor.
-
Well, it's been snowing here for the last 2 and a half hours - the forecast says it's pretty much on for the whole day and overnight tonight :-\
Wouldn't you know it, blizzard conditions on the day our 3 pigs are due to farrow ::) oh, and the kids are off school too :tired:
-
oh, and the kids are off school too :tired:
Yup, here too, school transport was cancelled, although here they now have a system where they match teachers to schools wihtin 1.5miles from their home address and they have to walk to that school and "supervise" the kids for the day, so that the council can say schools stay open... but mine are home, as I didn't fancy driving them in in this blizzard... it's been snowing since before 6am here... hopefully will get some :knit: done later on.

Heavy snow in the north as big freeze continues The wintry spell of weather will continue today across the country with temperatures hovering close to or just below 0C (32F) even through the middle part of the day. Southern and central regions should be mostly dry, but in much of northern Britain there will be persistent outbreaks of snow, and some heavy falls are expected, with accumulations of 20cm possible locally. The area of snow is very slow moving, and is likely to only gradually ease off in Scotland on Tuesday. There will continue to be a lot of cloud over the country this evening, but where skies clear temperatures will drop rapidly leading to a severe frost. The wintry weather will continue during Tuesday and Wednesday with a chance of more sleet or snow moving in from the west, and widespread frosts causing icy conditions on the roads. With high pressure building during the middle of the week freezing fog could become an additional hazard. Later this week there are growing signs of the Atlantic pushing milder air back east across the country, possibly by the weekend. Buzz (http://www.theweatheroutlook.com/twoother/latest.aspx) will be watching developments closely, and remember you can also follow well thats the forcast wether out look TUESDAY AND WENSDAY FOR THE HARDIST FROSTS MINUS 10 /TO 15
-
we are up to about 2inches but its still snowing, all schools open, much to my eldests disgust!!!
-
About 6" and still snowing hard. Very pretty but I can't get out. School open as they've got very little snow there, half-an-hour away and 800ft lower. Just I'm not there.
Checked on sheep first thing, as it's been very windy so some impressive drifts, but they were fine - they've sensibly taken to the side of the field where the snow has blown off and not where it has blown to - presumably just because they were sheltering in the lee of the wall.

We had 4inches yesterday to add to what we already had and had another 4 last night. Some wonderful drifts. Off work, schools all closed. Everyone seems to be out sledging :)
-
Yup, same here Roxy about half hour south of Edinburgh and half hour north of Anke - we've about 10inches here now and it's non-stop big fat flakes, never halted, 2 accidents on our road so they've shut it, all the usual CHAOS - isn't that the word they love at this time of year.
Traffic CHAOS, Commuter CHAOS, Schools CHAOS, Chaotic CHAOS ;D CHAOS CHAOS CHAOS ;D
-
Scottish Borders
Been pretty snowed in for 4 days
Grandchildren need their .best sledge but it is here with us and they are a few miles away.
Over the knees and deeper as it is drifting .
Annoying that a few miles away there are no problems.
-
We are in the middle of the south of Scotland, west of the Borders, and there's little problem here. It has been snowing all day, on top of old snow, but there's only a few inches lying. We'll see how the school bus manages on the hill :o It seems very cold though - until you compare it to Lostlambs in Canada :cold: 8)
-
Nothing here except sleet and stong winds. :gloomy:
-
We've had about 4 inches fall over the course of the day, but it is windy so it's blowing around a bit.
The main roads are all fine apparently - but they're 3 miles away from our road ::) The snow is still coming down, fairly heavily (or maybe it's just because it's getting dark?) so doesn't look like the kids will be at school tomorrow either :tired: :tired: :tired:
At least we got the farrowing pens finished and all 3 pigs are in them :relief:
-
Here on the eastern edge of Germany we have about 6/8 ins and its snowing at the moment. Its also very cold highs of -8/9 (normal for here).....We had UK type snow last week so all the papers are full of snowmen pics....its normally to cold/dry to make snow-balls or snowmen.
-
just been to my highest field to make sure all the sheep have come down, got the quad stuck up to the handle bars, got off to pull it out and its up to my belly button!
Im 6 foot 1!

That's really funny, I never thought of Uk being 'snowman snow land' - I knew there must be some advantage to our damp climate!
-
nothing up here
-
We've just had some light flurries in Shropshire today and the temperature is slightly above 0C. Not enough to make a noticeable difference but better than below zero.
-
We had several inches yesterday and a cold easterly obligingly drifting it up against all the walls and dyke backs. >:( Couldn't get the gate open into one field - well, I could've fetched a shovel, but I just climbed through with the cake for the hoggs on my back. Couldn't find a path through the drifts, so found a clear(ish) ridge on which to feed them and sent the collies to bring the hoggs to me. Skip is an old hand, knew where to run to stay out of the drifts. Dot is having to learn this one - she kept disappearing then launching herself up and out again - very funny to watch :roflanim: but it spooked the hoggs so they went scattering and some of them ended up ear-deep too. ::) Never mind, at that stage it was still powdery soft so they could clamber out without too much difficulty, and didn't get too wet in the process.
Our electricity went off at dinnertime (before I'd finished cooking myself a hot meal) and didn't come back on till mid-evening. Thankfully I'd just boiled a kettle when it went off, and our multi-fuel stove has a flat top so I can heat water - or soup - on it.
BH went out for cake for pigs and sheep, and a hot meal for himself; when he returned he said the fields were green only a few miles west of us.
I span by candlelight until I ran out of rolags, thoroughly enjoying the feeling that this must be how it was for our ancestors, couldn't see well enough to make more rolags (blending two fibres, needed more light to see when it's well-blended) after which we did Suduko by candlelight. Must get some more lamp oil for my hurricane lamp in case it happens again...
-
Flat top woodburners are great for emergency cooking, two layers of tin foil , a chicken breast with some butter, garlic and herbs and a squeese of lemon , fold the foil into a parcell and place on top of the woodburner, your veg can boil on there as well.
-
We've been having off and on electrics too, nice and cosy here in the mill though, we watched the Tales from the Green Valley dvd last night - it's predecessor to Victorian Farm and it's in Tudor times, very nice, funny how we all go back to basics in smallholding - our day to day isn't hugely different, just warmer with better clothing :D
If you haven't seen that dvd it's worth getting off amazon, especially if you're having one of those phases where you are questioning your lifestyle :D
-
fantastic will get the DVD will need to watch it every week to question my life style ,We ha vent had it that bad .About a foot the wood burner in the shed is on full time so the hens are all OK ,Iv booked the saw mill for Saturday to cut the trees for the new building ,dont think it will happen but it will be the end of the cold spell this week end .....................
-
An inch or two here, in Dumfries, so it manages to look pretty without being too much of an inconvenience. We've been incredibly lucky so far, and escaped the worst of it. Snow plough is hooked up to the tractor, however in case we do get a lot more.
-
Epic journey into work this morning, through drifts as high as the top of the 4x4, with just a truck-sized gap cut through :o
Can't get the quadbike up the very steep track to my fields, and anyway they're full of quadbike-swallowing drifts.
So - carried up a 3 gallon bucket of feed, came back down, strapped a bale of hay onto my back, carried that up to one field, back down, another bale of hay on my back and up to the other field. All through 1-3ft of snow. I'm feeling intrepid
Don't any of the local male bores dare suggest I'm playing at it at the moment ;)
(as opposed to most of the local farmers who are wonderful with me)
-
No more has fallen here today :relief:
It does look very pretty though (especially cos the snow covers all the mess ;))
-
Intrepid Jaykay? ;D once you sit down with a cup of cocoa .... ;D
Yup it's get up and get on with it time isn't it, sweaty, hair sticking to your face, wishing you had a pick axe, wishing you were a bloke ........... but getting it done none the less and another job scored off the list.
Character building as they say - tell you what, my character is BUILT and it doesn't need any more building! And as for thick skin ....
Enjoy your well deserved cocoa Jaykay, your animals will love you for it.
-
 Jaykay!
...and love the photos Karen
Snowed here today and now almost gone - I am feeling a wee bit left out :huff:
Pauline
-
Jaykay  girl power! Who needs da man :roflanim:.
It's a foot deep here now and main roads still being kept clear so easy to get about. The street where I work is a different story, slightly off the main road and frozen locks, car ark too deep to drive most cars so was kept locked >:( wanted to put mine the the safe zone :huff: ) had to park on street in a place where even the local dogs walk the street with flick knives :o
-
we are sinking fast we have a snow blower still no road
-
We had blue sky and sunshine this morning accompanied by the lovely sound of dripping coming from the roof. Can now see all the dog poo outside that was covered up before. I'm going to have to venture outside soon and clear it up.
-
Cocoa GP? I'd earned a beer after all that :D
-
I am snowed in. Still getting showers of and on so looks like I am stuck until we get a change of weather.
-
We had the snow blower yesterday and now the road is open again. It has spoiled the beautifully sculpted snow dunes - now there are 4ft perfectly vertical walls of snow instead. Less pretty but more practical.
I feel for those of you still stuck. You Ok Sabrina?
-

Spoke too soon. It was snowing hard when we went to see to the goats last thing last night and still snowing this morning. It has stopped now apart from some flurries but it's now at least two inches deeper than it was before the thaw started. :(
-
road back
-
:o :o :o
-
That's pretty impressive Gary :o
I'm getting very achey carrying hay bales, so tonight I am going to try pulling it uphill on a sledge - might have to sledge back down for the next one :D
-
Like the sign on the road too VF ;D
Yes, school was shut Mon and Tues here so kids enjoyed pulling straw bales on sledges to the animals, especially the downhill bits.
-
nothing here again, flurries on Tuesday but that was it. Was desperately hoping for the predicted snow to hit us last night so I could stay home and watch the tennis today but no luck
Well done Andy Murray by the way, people texted me the scores while I was at work
-
We were supposed to get heavy snow today and............NOTHING I seem destined to not go sledging :(
-
O K then...we have some/lots of snow >:(
-
Bloomin' raining here now so will be knee deep in mud soon :( :( :( :(
-
I have been sledging....
..... bales of hay & sacks of animal food! It's much easier than carrying them, even if every other job seems harder!
-
Little Blue, in our last house we were at the top of a steep hill and if conditions were too bad I often used to park at the bottom and bring the weekly food shop up in the sledge - just had to remember and tie up the bags to stop the odd tin rolling back down the hill :innocent: and of course great fun sledging back down for the next load :excited:
-
I heard hail earlier.
-
I went skiing on Wed this week at the hermitage near Dunkeld. There was 14"-15" snow and the gorge and trees, Braan etc looked breathtaking.
-

Its great fun, only our paths are quite narrow and the corners tight, so there's no way of f getting up much speed without falling off (whether it's people, or hay bales!)
-
Just been out on my skis (trekking, free-heel). Snow was heavy and slow but great fun anyway, blue sky and sun ;D. The collies found it hard going, there's about a foot of new snow with very little crust on, over the previous foot. Still, we're all better for getting out
Checked on the sheep while we were out - they're fine but not finding it easy to move about. Sensibly camped around the hayracks.
-
Mum took us skiing and now we're shattered :D

A foot of snow here overnight so a good layer for sledging again :excited:
Mum took us skiing and now we're shattered :D
:roflanim: :roflanim:
I'm planning on doing the same to our two and the boys. Should be a quiet night here ;D
-
;D yes, an effort here for Scout too, making big leaps to get about. Nice quiet evening without her mooching at the tea table :D
